Hi first time on here and just a quick question regarding the treatment of muscle invasive bladder cancer. It was a large tumour and I had a TURBT procedure. I was not fit enough to to have the bladder removed due to age and other medical reasons. So I was advised that Radiotherapy was to be given and at a rate of 4 sessions per week. Subsequently I saw the Oncologist and was it would be twice a week for 6 weeks. I went for the scan prior to radiotherapy and now advised it’s 1 session per week for 6 weeks. Is this downgrade of sessions normal from 4 per week to 1 per week? Everywhere I read that Radiotherapy is usually daily for a set number of weeks, but cannot find anything just related to 1 per week. Anyone had anything similarities knowledge of why this has happened. Thanks for any advice / help offered. Take care
Hi and a welcome from me. I had the then standard 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy for muscle invasive bc. Recently, and after trials, the treatment has been reduced to 4 weeks but with the same amount of radio but a higher daily dose. This has had some good results. Why your treatment has been reduced down to one day, I do not know. Have you been allocated a CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) who you can call to help explain things? Best wishes.
