My wife starts chemo/immunotherapy in ten days if the blood test results are good Even though just three months ago she was playing tennis it’s felt like a long road to get to this point and scary how much has changed for her in such a short time Joined this forum to listen about your experiences and if it’s helpful to share ours

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your wife has recently been diagnosed with cancer and I know what an anxious time waiting for treatment to start can be.

I'm not a member of this forum but I'm sure the members here will be happy to share their experiences with you.

It would be great if you could put something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Thank you I have just done that

  • Hello

I wanted to reply as I’m in a similar position to you. I just joined this week as in Monday we found out my husband has stage 4 bile duct cancer. It was a complete shock as he had stage 1 rectal cancer in December 2023 - cleared through surgery. Consequently has had lots of follow up CT scans and all came back clear and as he kept complaining of pain, they decided to do a PET scan which showed everything.

it’s spread to his liver and peritoneum. They think it’s prob elsewhere too.

Now just waiting for details for his chemo to start. Haven’t told many family members yet as our daughters are young - 9 and 15 so figuring out how to tell them.

Anyway wanted to share some support - I know how scary and worrying this all is.

    Hello Nashua

thank you I really appreciate your reply

I understand about talking to family and especially your girls We have two grown up daughters and four grandchildren aged between 5-20 One daughter and grandkids live close by

The diagnosis has been a shock for us in a different way My wife was admitted to hospital at the end of July Query heart attack However after scans showing her heart was fine blood clots were found in the right lung Sepsis 14 antibiotics and a CT scan later lesions on the liver were found After further investigation and biopsy cholangiocarcinoma Stage 3/4 It has been very difficult to explain to family From playing tennis 5 times a week in July to where she is now

    Thank you so much  connecting

Hi Nashua Just checking in to say hello and thinking of you

  • Thank you

how are you? How is your wife? Has the chemo started?

my husband starts chemo on Monday next week - germ/cis/durv.

we told our girls at the weekend, so shocked and it was really tearful but I’m glad they know now too. My little 9 year old is just bewildered by it all. Said she doesn’t believe it. Cry

it’s already been so tough but I feel the worse is yet to come.

    xx

  • Hope it goes ok for you. Sending my love and prayers x

  • Thank you. How old are your children? I understand. My girls are all I think about. People ask me if I’m ok. Most of the time I’m not sure how I feel but I also know I will be ok.

but with kids - if they lose a parent as a child, this affects them for the rest of their lives. Knowing that is very overwhelming. I just hope I can give mY girls the support they need.
