My husband was operated on Dec 2021. Everything that could go wrong did. 2 months in hospital. Discharged with bile bag. Successful chemo. However has developed Bile Acid Malabsorbortion. He is in a depressed state (in his 80s so has done well). His cancer is Hilar cholangio advanced stage 3. Extensive liver resection. Any helpful replies welcome.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read about the problems that your husband has had and that he is depressed.

I don't have any experience with hilar cholangiocarcinoma but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where someone with this type of bile cancer might see it and respond.

Has your husband talked to his GP about his depression as she/he should be able to suggest things to help? It might also help your husband to contact Macmillan about the free specialist counselling they currently have with Bupa. It's for anyone who is struggling emotionally because of their cancer diagnosis. Clicking on the link will give you more information, including how to access this.

It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
