My mother in law has bile duct cancer. She had a whipple procedure a year ago. Her cancer has not spread past the bile duct. The tumor is blocking the bile duct so she has stints in place and also a tube bag to collect bile fluid that's not draining into her intestines. She has loss a shocking amount of weight and can barely eat anything. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done to help regain her appetite?

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear about your mum's cancer diagnosis and that she has lost a lot of weight and is barely eating anything.

Weight loss and eating problems are common with a cancer diagnosis so you might find this information from Macmillan useful. Your mum could ask to be referred to a dietitian who could also help.

You might like to join the family and friends group or the carers only group (if you're your mum's carer) where you could ask others what tips they've found helpful in making eating enjoyable again. To join just click on the links and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
