In the painful phase...

Hello all! I'm Max and I am currently undergoing 5.5 weeks of radiochemotherapy. I I've done 20 sessions to date and I know the last/worst 8 are yet to come. I'm quite a positive, upbeat person with an amazing husband and great friends and doesn't appreciate pity, so have only told those people whom I know will be supportive. But I'm also an emotional female who needs a good cry when things are tough. My days are spent getting dopamine fix from playing games on my phone, reading the paper and watching TV. My energy levels only allow as much as cooking dinner and maybe doing a bit of gardening - although this wipes me out! But I'm ok with that.

I recently went to my local Maggie's centre which I never believed I would need- but it's great to talk about everything and anything with staff who understand. That's why I joined the forum too. It's not that friends and family aren't supportive, but they can only understand so much, and then you still have to endure the reality of it all yourself.

I expected the pain (which is relentless) as my oncology team have been great and explained things well, but what I have struggled with is the hormonal changes! I was already peri- menopausal and am aware that chemo throws you into menopause, but gosh! The rollercoaster of emotions is immense! And all the stuff that is going on with my vagina and urethra needs a whole forum just for the topic itself!

Ladies, what have your experiences been mid treatment? I know it's an intimate question, so I'll be honoured if you answer!

Thank in advance,

Max
