Hello everyone, my first time posting, however I have found loads of great tips from this forum, so thank you.
I was diagnosed in March with 4cm tumor but it hasnt gone into my lymph nodes or anywhere else. I am now 23 days into my treatment, only 5 days left thankfully but feeling quite sore now but using Flamigel, Sitz baths, actual baths with Aveen Oatmeal and salt but the worst of it, is when I poop, the pain, its like pooping glass shards. I have some numbing gel but it doesnt do much to be honest, I guess my question is, how long does this last for and any tips please? Thanks in advance
Hi Bex123 Welcome to the forum. I remember those poos, I described it as passing razor blades dipped in acid. From what I recall my painful poos started after treatment and lasted for about a week I think. I just used to do deep breathing to get through them. I have seen some on here say they would poo into the sitz bath and found it helped. Only five more sessions and then rest and recover. Sending hugs. Xx
Hello Bex123
Welcome to the forum and I am so pleased that you have found it helpful. And you are nearly there, well done!
And yes - going to the loo is like passing broken glass, the inside of the anus has had weeks of radiotherapy and is very raw and there isn't much you can do to stop the 'traffic'. You are doing all the right things. Towards the end of treatment, I used to poo into the sitzbath filled with lukewarm water, for me it made slightly less painful going under water. And others have found Instillagel applied internally helped numb the area prior to going to the loo. I tried it but couldn't get past the stinging but I must be a wuss!
And remember to shout out to your team if you need more pain relief, the last two - three weeks can be challenging so best be prepared.
Please let us know how you get on.

Hi Bex23,
I am on day 21 tomorrow my poops are the same, so sore. My skin has broken. I need to go frequently and they are all small pieces, when will they ever return to some sort of normality.
Hope your last 5 days are okay
Hi Flowerpot26 instillagel is the numbing cream, it can sting a bit when applied but that doesn't last long. X
Should I ask nurses at hospital for it? Thank you xx
Hi Irene,
Thank you for your response, you are definitely not a wuss, i also find is far to sore to poke anything up it to stop the pain. I may well try going in the sitz bath if that helps even a little bit. Hopefully it will ease in a couple of weeks, well thats what I keep telling myself. Xx
Hi Flowerpot, yes its instagel, just tell your team that going to the toilet is like pooing razor blades, can thry give you anything. Good luck. X
