Hi just joined and wanted to introduce myself, I was diagnosed in March which was a bit of a shock as I thought I had piles, I've had all my scans done and will attend the beatson tomorrow to discuss my radiotherapy and treatment plan
Hi Pinki60
Yes, quite a lot of us here start off thinking we have piles and often the doctors treat us as though that was the case, and it can be a while until we get the right diagnosis, which can be a bit of a shock, as you say.
Hopefully you'll get started with treatment quite soon, and fortunately it's very effective even if it can be a bit harsh. I would start moisturising your underneath with a very gentle moisturiser, all the bits that are in your pants! Once you start treatment they will probably give you some special radiotherapy cream to use, but get started with something like E45 as soon as you can. Don't use any on the days you have hospital appointments though - I think ordinary moisturisers can mess up the scanners etc.
If you are being treated at the Beatson, you must be in Glasgow?
Let us know how you get on, and come back with any questions.
All the best xx
Hi Pinki60, like you I was diagnosed in March, had MRI Scan and Ct Scan results. Also had Pet CT scan, seeing oncologist next week hoping Pet Ct scan isn’t different from other scans and get a treatment plan. Hope all goes well for you xx
Thank you x hope all goes well for you as well x
Hello Pinki60
A big welcome although I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. However, you have come to the right place as we have all either been through the treatment or are going through it and the forum is a really friendly place where nothing is off-limits for discussion. You are in that awful place between diagnosis and treatment starting when life has been a rollercoaster of appointments and scans, but you really will start to feel more in control once the planning is over and treatment begins.
Please come back and let us know when treatment is due to start, at a guess it will be about two - three weeks from now. It is a tough course but mercifully short, and we have lots of tips and coping strategies we can share.
And Mrs Vanilla is spot on - moisturise as much as you can, it really will pay dividends when you are in the thick of treatment.
We are here to offer support however we can.
Big hug
Irene xx
Thank you, was hoping when I go tomorrow treatment would start on Monday but if not at least I'll be prepared thank you
Hi,
sorry to jump on this thread but wanted to ask about moisturising, when people say don’t do it on hospital days does that mean treatment days? I’m having treatment Monday-Friday so just wanted to check before using moisturiser.
Thanks
