Thanks AllyL. It still doesn't feel real but unfortunately I know it is. I'm doing my best to keep positive and hoping the news won't be too bad when I meet the consultant.

I am so sorry that you had to face this news.  There are many members who have been told their concerns about their back passage are haemorrhoids and brushed off and which has later proved to be anal cancer but this doesn't seem to have been the case with you.  I know you must be in shock at the moment but I am hoping that it is a positive thing that your treatment was followed up with further investigations that revealed, albeit a very unpleasant result but one that means that treatment for you will accelerate.

This is absolutely the best forum for anal cancer (yes, I am biased!), many members on here have gone through treatment and have stayed around to help others because we all know the absolute shock, fear and disbelief that follows a cancer diagnosis.

Please let us know how you get on at your next appointment and your treatment plan.  We are here to offer lots of tips and coping strategies and provide a virtual hand-hold through treatment and beyond.

Hi Irene, thank you so much for your informative reply and kind words.  I'm so glad I found this forum as I don't feel so alone at this stressful time.  My family are great but they don't really understand.
