Hi all - hope you are doing ok.
i finished my 5.5week radiotherapy and chemo 2 days ago. I have a weak bladder too so have to wear incontinence pads. I am struggling to find underwear that I can wear to stop the irritation on my skin (my bottom and groin) - any suggestions would be greatfully accepted. Thankyou.
Hi Gurtie919276 & welcome to the MacMillan Online Community although I’m sorry you’ve had the need to find us. It’s great to hear you’re through your treatment too!
I was lucky enough to be able to continue wearing ordinary soft cotton underwear throughout although I did wear pads too because of slight leakage post treatment. Lots of our ladies hear that have had breakdown of the skin in the groin area have sworn by men’s cotton boxers so that there’s no elastic sitting in the groin, if you make sure they’re close fitting ones they would hopefully still be able to accommodate a pad too. Hopefully some of our lovely members will be along soon to offer some advice from their personal experience.
Wishing you well in your continued recovery.
Nicola
Hi Gurtie919276
Im just over 10 months post and I'm still wearing mens baggy boxers as girl pants irritate my skin as they cut so to speak in the wrong places. X
Hi there, this was really useful advice thankyou so much.x
Hi.. good news on getting through your treatment.. the 2 to 3 weeks after are the worst.. I didn't wear any underwear and when i did it was my hubbies cotton boxers.. after 3 weeks I was able to goback to cotton knickers and a small tener lady pad... sending lots of love

Thanks very much for your reply. Unfortunately my incontinence means I need more support than that. anyway men’s boxers are helping.X
Hello Gurtie919276
Well, I know you aren't quite through it all yet, but well done in getting the treatment over. The next couple of weeks you really will need to be comfortable. I wore Tena briefs to begin with but had to stop, everything was so sensitive that even the elastic on the side of my hips hurt although I didn't have sores there. I didn't wear boxer shorts (brilliant idea btw) but really big waist high cotton pants with a pad inside. I still wear a panty liner now as I have a little bladder leakage (well something leaks, not exactly sure what it is).
And my warmest wishes too for a swift recovery - you'll get there!
Irene xx
Hi Irene75359
Im the same as you now.. 6 month after treatment and I still ave a little leakage..at first I thought was wee but I'm not so sure now.. but it doesn't stop me doing what I need too.. even started skipping at the gym.. managed 40 without and dribbles yay.. my tena lady pad is my security blanket..gives us a little bit normality.. even though it's tge new normality x

Hi irene
thanks so much for the good wishes I will get through this.
i have got some tena pull up pants but not tried them yet. The men’s boxers are making things a bit more comfortable.
thanks again.x
