recently diagnosed with anal cancer - T3N1bM0

63 year old male just saying hello from Cornwall.

  • Hi Sinbad1

I've just been diagnosed with AC following a polyp removal which was  biopsied and found to contain a cancer. I hope your head is in a good place as I have been all over the place the last few weeks but this forum has been a godsend ...so many lovely people with so much experience. You will find a wealth of information here and so much support.

Have you got your treatment sorted and when will you start?

  • Hi Sinbad,

Nice to 'meet' you... I'm currently at the tail end of chemoradiation therapy for the same, stage 3 with lymph node involvement and I'm doing pretty well, all things considered! I'm not sure if you're experiencing pain at the moment, pre treatment, but I was and can tell you that the radiotherapy took care of that within the first couple of weeks!

Hope you're feeling ok. I know you must be feeling pretty anxious about everything right now. Feel free to ask anything on here, there's always someone with experience/advice to give!

  • Hi  ,

Firstly welcome to our little corner of the MacMillan Online Community although I’m so sorry to learn of your recent diagnosis.

I hope you’ll find the forum useful, we’ve lots of lovely members here at all different points on there journeys who have lots of hints & tips on navigating through diagnosis, treatment & recovery so please if you’ve any questions just ask, nothing is taboo here we’re used to talking about everything bottom & toilet related so don’t be shy!

You can click on people’s usernames & if they’ve been kind enough to fill in their profiles then you’ll be able to read a little about their journey, personally I’m a little over 7 years post treatment & doing well, cancer free as far as I’m aware.

  • Hi Sinbad1,

Just want to welcome you to the forum although of course I’m sure you’d rather not have to join us. I’m sorry about your diagnosis.

Receiving the diagnosis can be pretty overwhelming and I hope that you didn’t have a long journey to get to it.

As the others have said, this is a really good place to get information and support for everything to do with treatment and the whole journey. As it’s not a common cancer it can be hard to get info and to know where to turn so it’s good that you’ve found us.

Im a 63 year old woman, coming up to 7 months post treatment for T2N1 and so far the treatment has been effective.

Do you have a treatment timeline yet?

Wishing you all the best for the next steps and feel free to ask anything at all. X

  • Hello Sinbad1 (love the moniker!)

A warm welcome to the forum, although I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis.  You have come to the right place, all of us have been through or are going through treatment and we have lots of tips and coping strategies we can share.

Please let us know when your treatment starts, I know that life for you has probably been a whirl of scans, investigations and meetings but truly, once treatment starts, you will feel a lot more in control of what is happening.  The treatment can be tough but it's doable and has a high proven record for eliminating anal cancer.

And everyone on here is so supportive - there isn't anything that you can't ask, and if you want we can help support along the way.
