Treatment plan

Hey guys... had my treatment planning today. Wasn't actually prepared for it as didn't realise the scan and positioning tattoos were being done at this appointment. Can't lie, I went to pieces on that table. Felt so vulnerable and overwhelmed with people pulling and tugging at me and sticking needles in me :( I'm usually ok with things day to day, but I guess it all just suddenly became way to real. Anyhow, it's done now. Glad to be home. Treatment starts on 26th May and Ends 2nd July, so got a couple weeks to relax and try get my head in the game.

Hope everyone else here is doing ok xx

  • Good luck Jen

Once you start treatment and get into a little routine it's far less daunting and it will fly by.

Take care and shout if you need any help or advise. I finished treatment on 9th January.

    Take care

  • Hi Jen,

Sounds like a really difficult and emotional day for you. It does all become very real at that point.

Having a start date at least gives you a clear plan and timeframe to prepare and it can feel better to get started after all the waiting and wondering.
Wishing you well in your journey and absolutely rooting that you’re going to beat this.

    Sending hugs x

  • JenW, fortunately I was prepared so I knew what was going to happen, and it is an important part of the planning of treatment.  I am sorry you found it hard and I do hope that you are feeling a bit better now.  As treatment being in the past for many of us is that we forget some of the detail that would help others starting treatment so I am so sorry it has been a hard day for you.  That part is over, and I hope you are relaxing now and hopefully will get a good night's sleep.

    Big hug

    Irene xx

  • Thanks Jo x how you holding up post treatment? Xx

  • Thanks guys x I'm exhausted from it all! I'm sure tomorrow I'll be back on better form xx

  • Thanks to you guys here, I did know what to expect with the positioning scan/dots etc... I just didn't realise that was taking place today, so it was all just a bit thrown at me all at once. I'm not especially good with being touched or 'messed with' in the first place. Rarely even get my hair cut! And when I do, it's at home. So today was a lot and I guess reality is really setting in... but I will be ok. I think the tears have been a while coming and perhaps it's good to let it all out xx

  • Really well tbh thank you.

Treatment is tough but I only really struggled from week 4 with the sore bottom from the radiotherapy. I worked from home up until the 5 week. After being home for 2 weeks post treatment things soon start to ease. I went back to work full time 6 weeks after treatment. I feel great now.

I was T4 N1 M0 and my tumours were quite large but I've had an excellent response to treatment at my first 3 month scan with significant shrinkage so fingers crossed at the 6 month scan I get the all clear.

This group is so supportive and really gets you through with like minded people that are going through the same thing so don't ever feel like you're on your own.

Try to enjoy your weekend and look after yourself.

    Take care

  • Ah, that's amazing :) roll on that 6 month scan! Fingers crossed

I'm a bit unfamiliar with all these 'numbers' etc... what do they mean? Is T4 stage 4? I've been told stage 3, but not the measurements, although I mean to ask. I think mine is quite large as I can kinda feel a bit of what's inside from the outside :(

  • Hi,

can I just ask, do the lumps keep shrinking for a while post treatment? I only finished treatment this week, and mine shrank loads in the first couple of weeks of treatment, but there are still some small ‘ lumps ‘ ? Will they keep shrinking or are they likely to be scarring or should I worry?

  • Hi Sue,

I know that everyone is different so can only comment on my own experience that the tumour continued to shrink post treatment. The radiotherapy continues to work which is why they wait 3 months before doing the first scan.

Hopefully these lumps will continue to shrink. Hope you’re doing ok as the first week post treatment is a tough one.

Wishing you well for recovery xx
