I’ve not joined this group before but am now! I finished chemo radiation 6 months ago, given all clear 3 months ago but various symptoms returned about 6 weeks ago plus a swollen lymph node in groin. Had MRI and PET scan and obviously concerned. I want a simple explanation to all this but feel that might be over optimistic!
Hi JuneF
I'm so sorry, but welcome to the forum. I'm not surprised you are concerned but equally there's nothing wrong with being optimistic. All I can think is its possibly radiotherapy damage, but no point me speculating. Do you have an appointment yet to find out ? My oncologist always says to me he has a plan no matter what which kind of gives me comfort and I'm sure yours will to. Sending hugs. Xx
Hello June and welcome to the forum.
I can imagine your relief at being given the all clear 3 months ago but really sorry to hear about your symptoms reappearing.
It sounds as though your team are really responsive in organising an MRI and Pet scan. Have you had any results yet or still in the horrible situation of waiting?
As Bungle says , the radiotherapy can certainly cause side effects which can appear further down the line. I hope you get some answers soon as it must be causing worry and anxiety.
Fingers crossed for you, x
Hi JuneF ,
Another warm welcome from me. Firstly congratulations on finishing your treatment & the good news that your 3 month check up brought. Secondly I’m so sorry you’re suffering from these worrying symptoms & I think we can all appreciate the concern that goes along with this situation. Your treating team sound as though they’re really on the ball though & are doing everything to check things out. I’ll echo what’s been mentioned in the reply’s you’ve already received in that the radiotherapy can leave a whole boat load of inflammation in its wake, hopefully your scans will reveal that this is what you’re dealing with & nothing more sinister. I hope your appointment with your oncologist brings good news this week & can put an end to your anxiety. If you feel up to it please let us know how you get on. We’re here to support you however we can.
