Hello I am on my 10th session of Radiotherapy for anal cancer. I have a very sore vagina and anus, I am having the salt baths every day. I have been given Flamigel but can only use this on my anus as it makes my vagina sore and it is for external use only. I was advised to try Instillagel but no one appears to know if it can be used with Flamigel, I have been told to try with a 2 hour gap. There is so much doubt that I am not happy to try it in case I get it wrong. I am taking Chemotherapy tablets as well but my skin is not broken. I have also tried to find out if I can use home grown Aloe Vera as on genitals is fine but I do not Know if it can be used while having Radiotherapy. Someone on the forum has suggested Epaderm so if anyone has used this, feedback would be appreciated. Thank you and take care.
Just a quick note, my local chemist pharmacist was a godsend for advice when I was further down the line post treatment when I got some itching. I would go and see her as she was a minefield of information on what I might find useful. Always check that everything is okay with your team but this itching was due to just having sensitive anal skin after six times on the toilet! Now it isn’t as bad as that anymore unless I stray from a healthy diet.
Julie
Thank you Julie, my pharmacist has now looked into my problem and the doctor has prescribed me with Timodine today. I have not tried it yet as it is really for infections which I do not have and it has a steroid in it and they do not usually like me but my Oncology Dr said it can be used while having radiotherapy so we will see. In the meantime tonight I have applied Epaderm on it's own without the Flamigel so watch this space!
Take care xx
I used Epaderm last night without the Flamigel and this morning I am not sore on my genitals so this is a win win situation. My treatment has been cancelled for today due to servicing the machines but after tomorrows session I will try the Epaderm again and see how it feels. Take care everyone xx
Hello, just a update on the Flamagel. I know have sore areas down either side of my groin and under my tummy in a triangle shape. The radiology team have advised me to stop using anything apart from Flamigel which I am doing. I am still not putting anything on my vulva as it does not like Flamigel, the salt baths are also helping. Take care xx
Have you tried E45 ? I’m still using it on sensitive areas 23 days post treatment ?
Hi Chrissie, yes E45 was what the Radiotherapy team told me to use at the beginning of my treatment but it really stung. I then read the instructions and it says not to use on genitalia so I told the team and that is when they gave me Flamagel. My sore areas are getting better now so the Flamagel is obviously working.
Thank you and take care xx
