Hi
My wife was diagnosed with bowel cancer back in June last year and it had also spread to her liver. She had spots on her lung but at the time they were more concerned about the bowel and liver. Due to heavy drinking over the years she also has liver disease. Today we see our consultant after having 2 MRI scans and a CT scan she told us the cancer has not shrunk but has got bigger in her lung and now we face another round of chemo.
We've had such a tough few years and just want a little holiday to Greece the place we love. Any advice on travel insurance or anything else will be greatly appreciated
Thanks for being there
Gaz
I am so sorry to hear that your wife has further growth. A holiday sounds wonderful and what you both probably really need, but I know (from experience) that mention cancer and most insurance companies back off from cover. I went to Spain for 9 weeks last summer and my insurance didn't cover me, however, you are still covered, have a look https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-residents-visiting-the-eueea-and-switzerland-healthcare. So emergency (if needed) would still be covered. We took the chance because I am stable and in the event I was fine.
I think from your post that perhaps your wife has bowel cancer and this site is for anal cancer - and you may get more answers from the bowel cancer site
https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/bowel-colon-rectum-cancer-forum?infinity=ict2%7enet%7egaw%7ear%7e546548453420%7ekw%7emacmillan+bowel+cancer+forum%7emt%7ee%7ecmp%7eG_PS_COM_UK_BND_CANCER+TYPE_BOWEL_EX%7eag%7eForum&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_P6dBhD1ARIsAAGI7HA32Gvqt7ZxAusnqUdUptjjiVhUJcPnNZ2dIhQOb2_iE6pAQqsnj3waAkzoEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Sorry I don't know why that is such a long link! But bowel cancer is a lot more common and you may get a lot more advice - not that you aren't welcome here, far from it.
Hope you manage to arrange something for you both to enjoy, and healing wishes to your wife.
Irene xx
Hi Gaz (Coys ),
Firstly welcome to the Macmillan online community although I’m sorry that you’ve had the need to find us.
I’m so sorry to hear of your wife’s diagnosis & to hear of the progression of her disease. The treatment for anal cancer & bowel cancer are quite different & as Irene has said you may find some more relevant information in the Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum, we also have a Travel insurance forum for cancer patients that you may find useful if your thinking of planning a holiday, there’ll be lots of information over there on insurance companies that offer cover for people traveling who are living with cancer.
You’re more than welcome here & we’re here to support you however we can.
Nicola
