Hi All
My name is Paul. Ive recently had throat cancer and now very lucky to now be in remission. The day came that the all clear was here but didn't get sensation i expected. Since joining reading many messsges about treatment having a different affect on all of us. I am hoping it will pass and normality will resume. I am extremely grateful from all the staff at Poole General and particularly my Girlfriend. Love to anyone out there i hope you all recover to enjoy the rest of our live's
Thank you Paul for your kind words. From reading many experiences from others on here we do react in our own way when treatment is over and you get your much anticipated results. I know when I finished treatment and had the scans I said that I would go out and celebrate if I had the all clear but when I did I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed and it was a lot to take in. I think I just went home and put my feet up. Normality is another game but I think you just want to be able to enjoy life and look to the future. Take care x
Paul, you sound as if you have been through a rough time, having cancer is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. I am so happy that you have had the all-clear and that you had the support there from both the team treating you and your girlfriend. The very best of health and good wishes for a long and happy future, things can only go upwards now!
Hi Helper thanks for sharing this good news and your experience of your reaction to the news. I just wanted to say that if you do need to seek help in any way for the psychological aftermath of cancer, please contact either your treating team or GP who can help you access specialist counselling, this isn’t something you need to do immediately after treatment ends, it can be done at any point. All the best for the future, Bev
Hi Paul, good news! Know how you feel and its a common reaction. Its come up on some of the other groups and a number of us have found this useful https://www.workingwithcancer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/After-the-treatment-finishes-then-what.pdf
