Good Morning , I posted on the forum recently as my mum was beginning her treatment. She seems to be managing the chemo tablets however the radiotherapy has been quite brutal for her . She has spoken to the nurses and they have given her cream to use , but it is still very painful when sitting down , front & back of her pelvic area. Is there any suggestions to a cushion i could purchase that would make her life a little bit easier or any other recommendations you can offer ?
She is extremely fatigued and looks frail to me , I am so used to her buzzing about , she said she had to eat her meal yesterday laying on her side (breaks my heart ) So any tips would be appreciated . Thank You
Hello Mac1710
I am so sorry that your Mum is in so much pain. Where is she in the 28 days treatment? I know you said she was starting in August, hopefully she is now a good bit through the course. Has her team given her any painkillers? It sounds as if she is really in need of them, or if she been has them they could prescribe her something stronger. I remember you said your Mum is a very independent so I hope she won't baulk at taking opioid drugs - in some cases there really are needed. I took everything that I could (and needed them all).
During treatment I used a Boots inflatable maternity cushion which meant if I positioned myself properly nothing that hurt touched another surface. Now I use a honeycomb cushion (JML available on Amazon) and in fact have more than one strategically placed around the house as my nether regions are extremely sensitive as an after effect of treatment.
This treatment can cause extreme fatigue so she needs to rest as and when she can. Hopefully you will have your Mum looking more like her old self soon.
Big hug to your Mum (and you)
Irene xx
Thank you so much for your reply , she’s just finishing week 2 of treatment I will get onto purchasing a cushion for her and keep encouraging her to spk to the nurses if she is in pain
Hi Mac1710 I'm so sorry your mum is having a hard time. I don't have any advice re cushions, but I see the lovely Irene has given you some. I do remember a lady on here saying she bought a cushion and cut holes in it so she was supported but nothing touching where she was uncomfortable. Sending hugs. Xx
Hey, I just finished my treatment 4 weeks ago and my skin was very sore by the end. I used the flamigel cream liberally first few weeks . Like 5 times a day (not 2 hours before radiotherapy). When the skin got worse I used flaminel which the radiotherapy team gave me. Its much thicker and coats the really sore areas. Also used a sitz bath with Aveeno oatmeal sachets in that was very soothing . Hope that helps
