I havnt been on here for a while but today has been a bad day and I feel i just need to get out some of my feelings.I actually finished my treatment about this time last year...im not going to lie but found it all pretty horrendous but the support from this group was so amazing and really helped me through it.
At the same time I was looking after my sister who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and as she had a learning disability I was her main support.
Well...April this year my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer, he had surgery to remove his kidney on 12th May and i lost my darling sister just one week later.
It has all been pretty awful and im only know beginning to feel a little positivity then the phone rings this morning with news from my consultant that my latest ct scan is showing something on my liver so I need a urgent MRI...im in a bit of shock really but am doing my normal trick of saying im fine...this last year has almost broken me ....sorry for the long post x
Oh, I'm so sorry. You certainly have had a bad day, and from the sound of it a very challenging year. I'm in the middle of my treatment now, and while I'm generally optimistic it's been bringing up a lot of memories of loved ones I've lost to cancer, including my mother, father and sister. Sometimes I can feel like cancer is a curse our family has on its head, but then I remind myself that cancer touches most families. I try to remember the many, many people I know who've survived and lived good lives after diagnosis and treatment. I know there will be someone on this forum who can speak more specifically to the troubling scan. I just want to say good luck and send a hug!
Hi TAC25 , I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with so much right now.
What the last couple of years have taught me personally is never to underestimate grief. I lost my wonderful dad & my aunt 3 weeks apart around 2 & a half years ago & some days I feel I’m still processing that grief so I can only imagine you’re in a similar situation regarding the loss of your darling sister, I remember how fiercely you supported her. Grief also comes in different guises, your husbands diagnosis would probably have been wrapped up in your grief when your sister passed too & that’s a lot to deal with without receiving the phone call from your consultant yesterday!
I’m hoping that your MRI appointment comes through quickly & can offer only good news for you.
Never feel the need to apologise for posting here, remember we’re here to support you however we can.
Sending a virtual hug & lots of positive thoughts your way.
Nicola
You really are having the most awful year and my heart goes out to you. It has been one major life-changing event after another that would bring even the strongest person to their knees. And dealing with the grief of losing your sister at the same time as coping with what was going on with your husband, you must have been walking around in an absolute daze. I am so sorry for your loss; I too lost my sister, eight years ago now, but there is still not one day goes by when I don't think of her, hear her voice and long to hold her just one more time.
And now to get this phone call; your mind must be absolutely racing even though you are putting on a brave face; please don't put on this face for us, you are going through the scenario that each of us dread and anticipate since getting a cancer diagnosis. I hope your MRI scan comes through very soon and I think I can safely say that every one of us will be hoping that it is nothing more than a blip.
Huge hug
Irene xx
Thankyou...woke up a little more positive today but waiting is the hardest part xc
