Pain after radiation and chemotherapy

Hi everyone

I finished my treatment and was given the all clear back in June and apart from a few toilet issues everything was fine until January.  I have real problems sitting, I am only comfortable when standing or laying down as the pain in my pelvic area is really painful. I currently work full time and although office based, I can work from home. I’m 52 and have 4 teenage and almost grown up children. A friend suggested that maybe, due to the radiation I had, that the pain might never go away and it might of caused permanent damage as even anti inflammatory medications are not working. Has anyone else had this issue? I can’t see how I can carry on with my job on a daily basis full time at the moment and have been on sick leave for the past two weeks.

  • I forgot to mention that I went for a smear test a few months ago and they were unable to do it due to the amount of scar tissue I had, I’m just wondering if I have the same in the pelvic area and this is causing the pain every time I sit or try to stand up.

  • Hello

I am so sorry that you have developed these problems.  I am assuming that if you have been given anti-inflammatory medication that your actual bone structure has been checked to make sure everything is ok there?  I have problems sitting but mine are due to extreme sensitivity and thin skin.  What has really helped me is having a selection of honeycomb cushions around the house, I even have one in the car, these are widely available and on Amazon too https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audasi-Gel-Seat-Cushion/dp/B0C8NC6D23/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?

Although I am not entirely comfortable they help enormously and I can sit for long periods.  I carry an extra one in the car so I can even take one into a restaurant or a bar.

It must be such a worry for you with full-time work and I do hope you get to the root of this.  Please let us know how you get on.

    Irene xx
