New Cancer

Hello all,

I am now coming up to 14 months post anal cancer treatment. It hasn’t been the easiest time as have struggled with back pain following treatment then more recently abdominal pain and inability to open bowels without loads of laxatives which was a new development. I had a CT colonoscopy last week but haven’t had results yet.

Just to add to everything I have just been diagnosed with cancer in both breasts. I found a lump by chance and was fast tracked. Despite all the scans the lumps hadn’t been picked up which seems a bit strange to me.  I keep trying to be positive but feeling a little bit overwhelmed at the moment.
Apologies for offloading. Xx

  • Hello PEB24,

Im so sorry to hear your breast cancer news I really am. You must feel overwhelmed but I am reaching out to send hope and positivity to you.

I dont have experience of breast cancer but am 12 months post Anal Cancer treatment and still haven't had the full all clear so I can relate to that. I hope you get good news from your CT and colonoscopy. Then you can deal with the next step forward. Im sure someone else will reach out too.

I wanted to acknowledge your message and let you know you're not alone. I know what its like when you need to offload so dont ever apologise.

    Sending hugs

    Jo xx

  • Hello PEB24,

Just wanted to send you some thoughts and virtual hugs. Just when you thought you were getting through AC, this comes along - no wonder you are feeling overwhelmed.

But you are now in the system for getting your breast cancer treated and I'm sure they will move quickly with that. You are right - it is strange how none of the other scans you have had picked anything up. I suppose it is possible there was nothing to detect at the time.

I am not really able to offer you anything other than my support and to say I am sure all of us here will be sending best wishes and hoping for quick treatment and positive outcomes. Please let us know how it goes. xxx

  • Hi  im so sorry about your breast cancer diagnosis. We are all here for you and never apologise, off load all you need. Sending hugs. Xx

  • I’m so sorry to hear about your new diagnosis. Sending you lots of positivity, we’re here for you x

  • Oh

I am so so sorry to hear this.  Life is so hard and you have already had more than your fair share of problems.  I am relieved that you have been fast tracked and hope that the team will come up with a comprehensive treatment plan very quickly.

And please don't apologise for off-loading, you certainly didn't, you are like an old familiar virtual friend to us all on here.  I for one have certainly shared (probably overshared) on several occasions but that is the beauty of the forum.  I am not surprised you are overwhelmed, you must be in a state of turmoil.  So please let us know what is planned.  Although we may not have experience all of us on here are in no doubt of the effect of a cancer diagnosis.

    Huge hug

    Irene xx

  • Hello PEB24

So sorry to hear about the diagnosis and I am shocked it was not picked up on previous scans.

I have personally been encouraged and supported by your posts, so please offload anytime.

They will come up with a treatment plan and with a little time you will feel less overwhelmed.

Stay strong and please let us know how you are doing.

Sending positive thoughts and hugs xx

  • Thanks so much to all of you for your kind words and encouragement.

Im sorry to have offloaded but just felt a bit overwhelmed by everything.
I am still waiting for feedback from the colonoscopy so definitely hope there’s nothing else going on and that it’s just residual inflammation and radiation proctitis.

I have been given a plan for the breast cancer which is initially surgery on 6th February, radiotherapy and tamoxifen. The consultant wasn’t able to say why it wasn’t picked up in the scans other than that they probably weren’t looking for that. Not sure what I feel about that.

Thanks again for your kindness xx

  • Hi Peb

I’m really sorry to hear about your new diagnosis and the recent issues you’re experiencing.

I’m sure you’re really frustrated that the breast cancer wasn’t picked up during your regular surveillance but I’m sad to say I’m not surprised given my own experience when having regular surveillance Pelvic MRI’s for the nerve tumour on my spine and reporting symptoms related to the AC the AC wasn’t detected until I managed to get a colonoscopy done and then all was visible on the new MRI, they said it wasn’t picked up due to a difference in sequencing and I can sort of see that for the MRI but a body CT is surely also looking for issues elsewhere.

Really hope your colonoscopy comes back with nothing more than inflammation, glad you are fast tracked for the breast treatment and I wish you all the best with your new treatment.

    Huge hug from me

    Monty xx

  • Oh goodness   I’m so sorry to hear the news of your breast cancer! Talk about not catching a break! I’m sure any of us would be feeling overwhelmed also, one brush with this damn disease is one too many so getting a second diagnosis whilst being in the midst of your recovery must have felt unfathomable.

Please don’t apologise for offloading, that’s exactly why we’re here! You know we’re all behind you & will continue to support you in the best way we know how.

I too am pleased you’ve been fast tracked & hope a treatment plan is put in place swiftly to deal with this.

I feel we’re a family here, brought together by dreadful circumstances but families hold each other close when life gets tough & I hope you know we’ll be doing exactly that with you throughout.

Sending you a big virtual hug & many, many healing thoughts your way.

    Nicola
