Pelvis pain after the flu

Good morning everyone, I haven’t posted for a while but I still check in and read all the threads.

I finished treatment last April and was given the all clear in June. Since then I’ve gone back to work, returned to the gym, and really tried to move forward with life. For the most part, I’ve managed to keep the cancer in the background.

But last week I suddenly came down with a virus. One day I felt completely fine, and the next my whole body was aching and my muscles felt like they’d seized up. The flu symptoms passed after a few days, but I’ve been left with a very sore pelvis. Sitting down and standing up is incredibly painful — it literally takes my breath away. It feels almost like I’ve fallen and bruised my tailbone, and the area is tender to touch.

I also had some bleeding and noticed a lump in my groin. When my doctor examined me internally last week, he said the virus may have caused inflammation in the radiation scar tissue.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I’ve had to take sick leave again because there’s no way I can sit at a desk for 7.5 hours right now. Walking or lying down is much more manageable than sitting.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are suffering so much, especially after more or less getting your life back on track.  The are a lot of viruses going around at the moment which certainly doesn't help.

I haven't experienced anything quite as drastic as you have, I did have Covid in the early days after treatment ended but everything still hurt then so there wasn't anything unusual.  But it sounds entirely likely that the virus set off a chain reaction and inflamed what is very recent scar tissue.  I am relieved that you have your doctor involved, if it doesn't ease up I would go back and see him.  You may need anti-inflammatory medication to help until this dies down.

Best of luck, I hope you get back to work soon.

    Gentle hug

    Irene xx

  • Hi  ,

I’m really sorry that you’re not well at the moment especially after doing so well in your recovery, it definitely sounds as though the virus you’ve had has set off a whole load of inflammation. Did your Dr also check the lump in your groin? As Irene has said if it doesn’t resolve soon don’t be afraid to ask to see your Dr again.

Sending lots of healing thoughts your way. Please let us know how you are getting along.

  • Thank you for your reply. Yes, I went to see my GP as the lump was sore and I had some bleeding too, he sent me straight to emergencies where they checked both the lump and the blood and he said he thought it was the scar tissue from the radiation that was  inflamed by the virus. It’s this pain that’s worrying me when sitting and standing but Im

speaking to the dr tomorrow. I just wondered if anyone else had been through something like this before.
