I’m currently having 2 weeks of radiotherapy and suffering just about every side effect there is-feeling sorry for myself too.  I’ve already had 2x6 months of chemo.
Has anyone else suffered with passing urine almost every hour-particularly during the night? I’m sure I would feel better if I could get a decent night’s sleep

Thank you

  • Hello

You are absolutely entitled to feel sorry for yourself, especially as some people really suffer severe side effects and very unfortunately you seem to be one of those.  Pelvic radiotherapy can play havoc with your bowels and waterworks by causing inflammation, but that said, I would always advise telling a member of the team treating you about your symptoms.  You could have a urine infection that needs additional meds.

Having disturbed nights is the worst and I do hope you get help to ease this.

Please let us know how you get on

    Big hug

  • Hi  , I’m so sorry you’re going through it right now. I had a couple of episodes where I was up & down all night for the loo, I had radiation cystitis & I think the inflammation made it difficult to fully empty my bladder so it was emptying in dribs & drabs, it was an awful feeling! Have you mentioned this at your radiotherapy appointment? If not I would mention it just do they can rule out infection. I hope this settles down soon & you manage to get some sleep, your body needs the rest to recover & repair from the treatment you’ve been & are still going through.

Sending a virtual hug & healing thoughts your way.

  • Yes I have ‘phases’ of it( I’m 3 weeks past radiochemo) , ibruprophen  seems to take away the urge . Maybe because it’s anti inflammatory

  • I was the same and after a three week period post chemoradio , it starting to reduce . Take as many painkillers as you can , despite all the creams and potions they are about the only things that do any good

  • Hi

I’m the same I’m  halfway through my 28 days of radiotherapy & I’m up about 6 times in the night for a wee , I would love to have a good nights sleep . I’m getting quite red & sore there now.. wish you well & you get through it a little bit more easier .

  • I finished five weeks of chemoradio a month ago , and started getting the same problem a couple of weeks after it finished

  • Hi-I’m 18 days post radiotherapy and finally starting to feel a little better each day. I got a UTI too which made everything so much worse but the antibiotics have started working now so I’m not up as many times during the night. My radiation team prescribed Dermol moisturiser/soap which I find soothes the area and can be applied constantly. Good luck x
