Hello
I’m due to start my treatment of chemo & radiotherapy for 28 days on Dec 15th … Has anyone used bath salts if so which ones did you find the best & did you find they helped ?
Thank you ️
Ive seen some people on here use epsom salts. I did a couple of times but was told not to by the radiotherapists so i stopped. I would check anything you want to use with your team however harmless you think it is. Different hospitals seem to ok different things. Good luck for the 15th. Sending hugs. Xx
Thank you . I will check tomorrow as have my Ct scan for marking up . Hope you are doing well .. live this community ️
Hi Kerrie
I didn’t use them as the general feedback on here was that Epson salts are not allowed, I enquired a couple of times about it at the hospital and was first advised to use table salt or even Oats wrapped in muslin dipped in the bath. The second time I actually asked what the issue was with Epsom salts and apparently it’s because most Epsom salts contain some sort of fragrance and that’s what the issue is, I have since seen some posts on here where someone has used fragrance free or pharmaceutical grade Epsom salts without issue.
Hope your treatment goes smoothly once it’s underway.

I was told to just use 2 teaspoons of table salt in a sitz bath. It is soothing to sit in water when the skin is sore and irritated but I didn’t notice any real difference from the salt although I’m sure it’s antibacterial properties were helping.
Hello Kerrie74532c28
I used pure non scented epsom salts after treatment.
I didn't have open wounds just slight burns and a flaky area that threatened to crack. I used them in the sitz bath and they really soothed my skin prior to cream. My skin healed very quickly, but not sure if that was just my skin or the strata X cream I used during radiotherapy.
I would have used them during treatment, but bought them late and hadn't used them before, so I waited.
I also ate a high protein diet and kept active which I think helped me a lot.
Very best wishes for the start of your treatment.

Hi I used non scented Epson salts every night after treatment for the 28 days and still use them 12 weeks post treatment. My team said they were fine to use but always worth checking with your team.
Good luck with the treatment. I found this group so useful whilst I had treatment and still use it. Its great for hints and tips and so much support here
Big hugs

Hi Kerrie74532c28 ,
I also used Epsom salts post treatment (twice daily), I didn’t have open sores although by around day 3-5 following that last radiotherapy session my skin felt pretty raw. I would always advise running everything by your treating team as they’re in charge of your care & they really are the best to advise, my oncologist & radiotherapy team didn’t have an issue with me using Epsom salts post treatment baths in my recovery. I ordered mine from the Epsom salts post treatment website, as has already been said lots of the Epsom salts in the shops have other things added, perfumes etc.
