Itchy!

5 weeks post treatment and I am very itchy at the back. Not all the time but on and off. I keep it clean but it drives me crazy! Will this go eventually? I am hoping it means things are healing rather than the other way around. Any advice on how to treat the itchiness?

Thanks x

  • Hello Eleni,

Think this has come up before so I'm sure others will also respond, but some people find anti histamine tablets are helpful.

  • Hi Eleni,

I'm pre treatment, so I'm unsure if it's the same thing we're experiencing, but for months now I've had this intense itchiness. I'd describe it as almost painful! Very intense and keeps me awake at night when it gets bad. It's a separate sensation to the actual pain, but just as hard to ignore... have you tried lidocaine? I have instillagel, which does help with that, but it has also inflamed a burning sensation on occasion, so I think you have to be careful where/when you apply it. Xx

  • Hi Eleni ,

I’m over 3 months post treatment and still get the itching from time to time . It’s not as intense now , I do have haemorrhoids too , I find Anusol ointment helps with the itching . I don’t need it all the time just when I have an itchy spell , it usually settles it down within a day for me .

    Best wishes

  • I really feel for you, I didn't have itchiness (thank goodness) but I know it can be unbearable.  I see you have been advised antihistamines, I hope they give you some peace from your itch.

  • Hi  ,

I had the dreaded itch too, I had it during treatment then when my skin was healing post treatment, I’m another advocate for antihistamines, personally I took Piriton & although it didn’t alleviate it completely it definitely made it bearable.

  • Thank you all for your kind and helpful replies. I am going to try antihistamines, and just take it as a positive that it means the wound is healing.
