Hi all,
I haven’t posted for a while since finishing the treatment as I’ve been focusing on trying to get back to normal! I’m starting to get my appetite back and I’m not feeling so tired and I am trying to get out and about a little bit now the soreness has gone. I do have the issue that every time so do a wee my bladder really hurts ( broken glass symptoms spring to mind). I have stopped taking the painkillers about a week ago but I’m thinking that’s maybe why I’ve got this pain again. Has anyone else experienced this and if so , how long did it last for?
Thanks so much xx
Hi Mix ,
It may be radiation cystitis, I suffered this during treatment & sympathise with the discomfort that comes along with this, it could be this that you’re experiencing or it may be bladder inflammation but I would suggest that you maybe take a water sample into your GP’s surgery & get tested for a UTI just to be on the safe side, radiation cystitis unlike bacterial cystitis can’t be treated with antibiotics so I just made sure I drank loads of water & unsweetened cranberry juice… I’m pleased you’re feeling much better in other aspects of your recovery. I hope you get some relief soon.
Nicola
Yes, I had this too, Nikki and found that the cystitis meds you can get from chemist, like Cymalon were really soothing and gave me relief. They are not antibiotics but just counteract the inflammation. You could ask the pharmacist, but be sure to mention you've had radiotherapy, Mix. Good luck.
Hello Mix
Having very recently had a urine infection (so it is all very fresh in my mind!) it could be a UTI - constant weeing and burning too. It took two lots of antibiotics to clear mine. The second time I went to the doctor armed with a sample which showed I still had it. Interestingly, when I did the first sample the GP showed me the white particles in the bottom of the sample pot which confirmed to her immediately it was a UTI. I always knew urine could be cloudy, but this was the first time I had seen it 'up close'!
The antibiotics worked really quickly too. Hope you manage to get it sorted out.

Hi sorry not posted recently I have 7 more treatments to go I have the stinging they say it is the radiation causing it and my bottom is like razor blades they have given me antibacterial gel which helps also got Octenisan which is very soothing on bottom when showering.Cant believe how fast the treatment has gone it was 28 days .Hope all going through same treatment are doing well xx
Hi Mix,
Im glad that you are gradually recovering in the tough days post treatment.
I remember the agonising broken glass wees and how eye watering they were. I was told it was radiation cystitis and very common. I also used over the counter cystitis sachets and lots of diluted cranberry juice which helped a bit.
Maybe worth checking out with your team just as a precaution n case of infection as Irene has flagged.
I do hope this particular symptom passes quickly as I know how uncomfortable it is on top of everything else.
Wishing you well for the days ahead and for your recovery and hope that you feel better very soon.
xx
Hi Babymole,
This is when treatment starts to become a bit more challenging and just want to wish you all the best for your upcoming last 7 treatments. You are almost there and the finishing line is in sight. Well done so far.
Keep crossing off those days on the home stretch and use all the creams on offer to ease your symptoms.
Wishing you well xx
Hi Mrs Vanilla , thanks for that snippet of information, that’s good to know that the over the counter medication worked, I didn’t think of trying that to be honest I just followed the advice of my radiotherapy team.
Nicola
Hi Irene,
Sorry that you had a UTI. Very unpleasant and hope it’s all cleared up now and that you’re feeling better xx
Thank you - I am absolutely fine now, the doctor thinks I may also have stenosis of the urinary tract. It means lots of visits to the loo, especially during the night but it doesn't bother me, I literally go almost without waking!
Irene xx
