Well treatment finished last Wednesday after 5 and half weeks of daily radiotherapy and a portable pump with Mitomycin C and 5FU chemotherapy weeks 1 and 5 but I have continued working full time and got through it - how I did it I don’t know although work was a distraction I think.
you are all right the accumulative effects get worse post treatment but have now started to subside.
This group has been great with advice on managing symptoms and flaminol hydro was essential.
it really is brutal treatment and it tested my resilience to the limit but it’s only 5-6 weeks and it goes so quick.
I have a follow up at the end of May and hope by then the acute side effects will be gone and I am really looking forward to the summer. My husband has been great putting up with my highs and lows, towels in the bed, my crying and whinging from pain and being so positive really kept me going.
good luck to anyone starting treatment - you can do it as staff in these units are the nicest people I have ever met.
Hello Coffeequick,
Well done on getting through the treatment - and continuing to work through it.
You are right - it will start to improve now for you, and having the summer ahead is so lovely as you start to feel much more like yourself. And great to have a supportive and understanding husband, it will be a relief for him after seeing you go through all the treatment, to share in your recovery.
All the very best,
xx
Hello Coffeequick
You worked through it??? - what a warrior you are! I honestly couldn't have done that, I was so fatigued never mind the pain when I sat down, I spent a fair amount of time in bed semi-lying and everything open to the air!
You have really done so well and in a week or so, things will start looking up. Just in time for summer too.
And whinging is absolutely allowed on this treatment!
Please don't be too hard on yourself though, side effects are peaking right now for you.
Irene xx
Congratulations from me too Coffeequick on the completion of your treatment & well done for managing to work through it too!
Onwards & upwards now, on to greater things & yes keep your sights set firmly on enjoying a wonderful summer.
I love that you’ve had such amazing support off your hubby, such support is integral to your approach to both treatment & recovery so a big high five to him & I’m sure he’ll be over the moon to see you on the road to recovery.
May will be here before you know it & that’ll be your first review under your belt.
Well done again.
Nicola
