I recently had my 3 month scans post treatment for stage 4 anal cancer. 99% of my tumours are gone which is amazing. However I had to have a pet scan due to a couple of pesky lymph nodes. Turns out they’re nothing to worry about but the scan showed a new tumour just below the diaphragm. I’m utterly devastated. My consultant is holding off making a treatment decision until I’ve had another ct scan at the end of may. It’s possible it’s localised and quite treatable but it’s also possible that it’s the start of a spread that isn’t treatable. I stayed really positive during my initial treatment but now am feeling defeated. I don’t really know why I’m posting as I don’t have a question just needed to write this down, Thankx for reading
Hi PoHo ,
I’m really sorry that you’ve received this news! The way you’re feeling is absolutely normal, I’m sure I would be feeling the exact same way, it’s just another blow isn’t it?
You don’t have to have a question to post here, it’s a safe place to get things off your chest if needs be amongst a group of people that can really empathise with what you’re going through.
We’re here to support you however we can.
Nicola
Hi PoHo,
I’m so sorry that you have had this news after being so positive and having a good response to the initial treatment. I can absolutely understand you feeling devastated.
Waiting until your next scan at the end of May before having a plan must feel so difficult.
I can’t offer any practical advice but just want to send a big virtual hug. Xx
Hi PoHo
I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Like Nikki65 has said you don't have to have a question to post, use it as a way to get things of your chest or a sounding board. The following may or may not be of help to you as I don't know exactly what your consultant has said. My 3 month PET scan showed my original tumour as no active cancer but it also showed what my oncologist told me was a new tumour this didn't really make sense to me so I contacted my specialist nurse who said there is a tiny chance it could be but more than lightly is healthy tissue that was damaged during treatment trying to heal itself. My next scan would confirm more. I'm choosing to go with tissue trying to heal and if not will cross that bridge if i have to. She also said the doctors are all very clever people but not great at explaining things. Sending hugs. Xx
Poho, we are all feeling so much for you - no wonder you are devastated and I am so so sorry that you have had this come up and also have to wait until the end of May for another CT scan. That puts you in a very hard place until then, the not knowing one way or the other what direction this is going to take, my heart goes out to you.
Please post, and keep on posting whatever and whenever you want, we are all in this together and the forum isn't just about the good news; it's about sharing and supporting each other through the absolute rollercoaster of having cancer.
Sending a big hug
Irene xx
