Hi Pelma,
That sounds like a very distressing and frightening experience. I hope that you are feeling better and have not had any further episodes since Saturday.
Bleeding can be down to a number of things, from piles to fissures but given your history of anal cancer you really must tell your doctor and get checked out.
I know it can be hard to get to see a doctor but do make sure you tell the receptionist that you have a history of cancer and hopefully you will be seen urgently.
Wishing you well and do let us know how you get on

Hi pelma
Sorry you are having problems. I had this once but it wasn't long after treatment and the hospital said it was fine. You are much further down the line than me so I would definitely ring the hospital and see what they say for peace of mind if nothing else. Sending hugs. Xx
Hi pelma ,
I’m so sorry you’ve not been feeling well. Regardless of how far out of treatment we are situations such as this if they occur are always really concerning & I appreciate how anxious you must be feeling. Radiotherapy for our particular diagnosis completely alters the skin of the anal/rectal area both externally and internally forever & it could be the case that you’ve got a tear or a fissure, you’ve possibly had a bit of an upset tummy & the fact that you’ve had quite severe diarrhoea could have caused this. If this has continued I would contact your treatment team to see if they will offer you an appointment to get checked out, my team always made it clear I could contact them at any time if I had any concerns which for me was really reassuring.
Let us know how you’re doing.
Nicola

Hello Pelma
I am really sorry that you have been having these problems. I have intermittent bleeding (three years since treatment) if I have had a hard stool, diarrhoea, strained at all, anything can set it off. I am hoping that this is what is happening to you. The latest was last week at my checkup when the oncologist tried to do a DRE, she had difficulty and I was dabbing away blood as I got dressed.
I .hope you get your colonoscopy appointment very soon and they find everything is well.
Please let us know how you get on, we are all thinking of you.
Irene xx
Hi again pelma , thanks for the update. It sounds as though everyone you’ve seen are doing a great job & being thorough in finding the cause of the bleeding. I would have blood present if I had even the slightest difficult bowel movement for some time after my treatment had finished although it would stop straight away. I would mention this at each appointment with both my oncologist & surgeon & both would seem pretty unconcerned & went on to explain about how the radiation changes the structure of your skin & the blood vessels etc., but that didn’t stop the panic from rising ea ch time it happened!
I hope that you’re not waiting too long for your colonoscopy appointment & the results are able to put your mind to rest.
Keep us updated on how you’re doing. I’ll be thinking of you.
Nicola
