Can anyone help? I finished chemoradiation 14 days ago and for a few days my appetite has got worse and worse. I am trying but it is difficult. I had no side effects at all from the chemotherapy and the radiotherapy during treatment. I have had a very sore bottom for a couple of weeks but that is easing now. Thank goodness for the sitz bath!!
Hi.. great that you have finished your treatment.. tremendous achievement..
I finished my treatment on 13th Feb and my appetite throughout has been poor..
I eat thinks like butter milk pancakes..you can buy from most supermarkets .. white toast with diary lee and frosties.i also make a batch of yorkshire puddings and froze them.. just eat them as snd when i feel like them... nothing else sits well with me ..
Hopefully your appetite will return..maybe speak to hospital to see if they can prescribe fortisip ..thats packed with calories

Hi Fellsider,
Big congratulations on finishing your treatment! It’s still very early days in terms of recovery and healing up. I’m sorry you’re struggling to eat, particularly when you want to regain your strength and energy.
I do think the treatment affects appetite in different ways. I found that things I normally enjoyed either tasted ‘off’ or had no appeal. It may be the after effects of the chemo, side effects of pain relief if you are still on morphine and the subconscious knowledge that what goes in must come out if you know what I mean.
Little and often probably more manageable than full meals and allow yourself anything that appeals. I think most of us had some pretty weird diets in this period.
Smoothies can help get some nutrients in and if that fails fortisips will provide calories, vitamins and minerals.
Very much hope that you find what works for you soon. Wishing you well for this stage of your recovery journey. xx
Hello Fellsider
Well done in getting through it all - isn't it a relief not having daily hospital visits?
I struggled with appetite too and topped up what I ate with Ensure Plus, a drink that has all the RDA of vitamins and minerals and it also very high in calories. I kept bottles beside my bed and swigged from them regularly - I went off squash/cola/coffee, most drinks actually. You might find trying really strong tasting food will help too.
Hopefully your appetite will return in the next couple of weeks once the side effects of chemo wear off.
Gentle hug
Irene xx
Hi Fellsider , congratulations on completing your treatment, at 14 days post treatment your side effects have probably just peaked so now the healing begins. The lack of appetite may be to do with this. I would do as has been suggested & try some meal replacement drinks, your body will need good nourishment to begin the healing phase. I hope that you find your appetite begins to improve soon.

Well done on finishing treatment! The appetite thing - I get it. I had no desire to eat. At all. Even though I needed to with the meds I was on. I made sure I was drinking electrolytes and nibbles on small things like custard or rice pots, small fruit bowls, dry cereal - anything to get calories in that didn’t turn me. Try to have a selection of favourite foods in - I would often get a fancy for something but by the time I had gone and bought it I didn’t want it any more. So if you have any favourites stock up a little. And don’t worry about it being super healthy at this stage. A curry chip saved me a few times x
Thank you Squeak Luckily I have a brilliant GP practice. They are incredibly supportive. I spoke with my doctor and was immediately prescribed fortisip and mirtazapine which is an effective appetite stimulant. It is definitely helping. Hopefully won't be long before the thought of certain foods don't make me baulk!!
