Anyone still having their period years after chemoradiation?

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing okay. Just dipping in to ask a quick question….

It’s been nearly 3.5 years since I had chemoradiation- I was 51 and perimenopausal then. Was told by by onco that I would go into immediate menopause because things would be somewhat nused after all that!

I fully expected things to tail off (which they did in 2021 and then they returned in 2022 I had fairly regular periods again minus one or two, 2023 Jan to July just spotting once a month for a day or maybe two but then nothing until Jan 2024 when I just had 4 separate months of one day spotting last time being September 2024  but today I am having what I would term a proper bleed (albeit light ish) this morning and I have that ache you get when you have your period.

I have been taking regular HRT (gel and progesterone) for quite a few years (even before chemoradiation, although I may have been a bit slapdash with it before then) but now I take it without a break so just wanted to ask if anyone else is in the same boat?!

I’ll be 55 tomorrow (yikes!) and would really have thought at my age, after chemoradiation and taking full HRT I would have stopped this malarkey by now! Joy

I had a uterine scan last year all fine and no polyps or thickened lining so feeling confident it’s not anything sinister.

just wanted to check in here and see if anyone else was in the same boat

love to all

  • Hi PPR and happy birthday for tomorrow!

I haven’t experienced this I’m afraid so can’t offer any advice. I’m also on no break progesterone and oestrogen gel and don’t have any bleeding.  I’ll be 50 in June.

Hopefully someone else will be able to help x

  • Hi Prettypink roses,

As a post menopausal oldie I can’t help on this but hopefully you will find some younger members of the forum who can share.

    Happy Birthday! Xx

  • Hello PPR

Lovely to hear from you again!  I do hope life is treating you well.

I can't help with your question, I am sorry - I had a hysterectomy before the menopause so I can't even compare notes.  I do remember the feeling of elation afterwards the I would never have another period so I can imagine how you felt having it all start again.

Best of luck in getting it sorted out.

    Irene xx

  • Hi  ,

It’s lovely to hear from you & apart from the issues you’re having in regards to periods I hope you are doing well.

I can’t help with your query as I’ve a Merina coil in, it was in prior to treatment & stayed in situ during treatment (I must make an appointment to get it removed!!) therefore I had no periods, I must add though that 99% of any menopausal symptoms I had disappeared after treatment so I’m presuming I’m through the other side!

Just wanted to jump on though & wish you a very happy birthday, I hope you enjoy your celebrations.

    Nicola
