Hello all,
I finished my treatment for anal cancer stage 3 (5cm tumour and 1 lymph node involved local to the tumour) i just wondered if anyone had experienced any thigh pain? I have pain in the top of my right leg/hip its more of an ache than a pain? It's not keeping me awake at night but its there. Its hard not to worry about every little niggle but was just wondering if anyone could help.
Ps other than this I feel amazing. Back to 10,000 steps a day (my cockapoo is delighted) appetite is great and I've gained the weight I lost during treatment.
Lots of love

Hi Edjo
Well done on completing your treatment you sound like you are doing really well. I finished treatment on 6th November and my hips have been a bit achey and tight but I put mine down to the fact that pre treatment I did a lot of exercise and heavy weight lifting which I wasn't allowed to do while having treatment and then post my burns stopped me for a while but now I'm back into it and slowly increasing my load they are getting better. Not sure if that's any help. If you are concerned though give your medical team a ring. Sending hugs. Xx
Thank you for your reply Bungle,
I have been doing some exercises that I have got from utube for after pelvic radiotherapy. I see my consultant on the 21st in any case so I shall mention it then.
Sounds like you're doing amazing too! I expect your 3 month scan is imminent? Good luck xxx

I had a physical exam on the 8th of January which according to the letter which arrived today there was a reduction in the tumour and then I had a CT and MRI on the 27th Jan and get results next week 19th February, trying not to get my hopes up as they say the 3 month scan often isn't clear and it's the 6 month that's important, but secretly hoping I am clear if that makes sense. Xx
Hi Edjo ,
I suffered the exact same pain following treatment, only on my left side, I also have bilateral sciatica. I still have it to some extent. I was sent for physiotherapy by my GP as an X-ray only showed some slight osteoarthritis in my hip. The physio checked my hip rotation & said it was good considering I have osteoarthritis & my age. He decided I have something called greater trochantric pain syndrome which is s muscular issue opposed to joint related, he’s given me several exercises to stretch & strengthen this muscle & my core & to stretch out my lower back & help release my sciatic nerve. Being on the move often helps both issues but as soon as I stop I stiffen up badly, it takes a couple of minutes to loosen things off again before I start moving around properly again.
You can now self-refer to physio so I would consider giving it a try because it did help me.
P. S., I too have a cockapoo. ️

Hello Edjo
From another cockapoo owner - if you are doing 10,000 steps a day I am seriously impressed! No wonder your pooch is delighted!
I have had a fair few investigations of my hips that have been giving me a bit of trouble since treatment and it is all muscular and what you describe sounds the same. I would still mention it to your treating team when you see them for your check, but I think it is something a lot of people experience after radiotherapy. But, and this is important, the thing to do is keep moving and you are ticking all the boxes with 10,000 steps.
I know how niggles can play on the mind but you have an appointment very soon and you can go through any you have (including this) then.
Best of luck
Irene xx
Thank you ladies for your kind replies.
This forum is a God send i have to say!
I'm planning on going back to yoga this week so that will help with my core and stretching so will just take it easy and listen to my body.
Much love and sleep well everyone
Jo xx
