Hi everyone. This is my first posting. I was diagnosed earlier this month and I should be getting a treatment plan tomorrow.  Can anyone suggest some good pain relief.  It is always after eating or going to the toilet. Paracetamol are taking hours to kick in.  Many thanks

  • Hi JG29,

Firstly I’m so sorry about your diagnosis and that you’ve had to join the forum. As others have said- the club no one wants to join. You can always reach out here for information or just to share the feelings that come with this diagnosis. There are so many lovely people here that understand what you are going through.

Im sorry that you are struggling with pain and please tell your team if you have been assigned one yet otherwise discuss with your GP . I know exactly what you mean about paracetamol not touching it. It’s hard enough struggling with the diagnosis without being in constant pain.

My Oncologist gave me oromorph while I was waiting to start treatment. I was reluctant to take it but eventually did so and it helped so much although you absolutely have to take stool softeners at the same time.

Best of luck with receiving your treatment plan and hoping that you get a plan for pain management. Xx

  • Thank you so much. I called my GP surgery and told the receptionist about the diagnosis and that I needed stronger pain relief and all she said was there is no availability until 18 February!!

  • Hi JG29

Sorry about your diagnosis but welcome to the club. Can't really help on the pain relief, I only took paracetamol during treatment, I took them constantly though so they didn't have time to wear of. I know some people on here have had morphine but like PEB24 says speak to your medical team and they will be able to give you something to help if the paracetamol aren't cutting it. Sending hugs.X

  • Thank you so much. I will speak to them tomorrow xx

  • Hi JG29

That's so wrong. Have you been given a number from the hospital to ring for help if so give them a call. X

  • Hi JG29,

Thats way too long to wait if you are in significant pain and horribly frustrating.
Hopefully with your treatment plan you will be allocated a MacMillan nurse and they are brilliant at liaising with the GP.
Otherwise call GP again and absolutely insist on an assessment. The receptionist is not clinical and it sounds like they didn’t really understand the situation.

I say this as I went for 6 months in awful pain before and after diagnosis but before treatment and don’t want anyone to be in that position. When I look back I wish that I’d been more insistent.

Very best of luck with it. Don’t take no for an answer! X

  • I am at the hospital tomorrow so I will ask them for pain killers. I can't wait until the 18th to see my GP x

  • Thank you. I won't. The pain is intense isn't it? I just cannot get comfortable  xx

  • They should help you, my hospital were very good. Part of my tumour was external and sitting was becoming uncomfortable and they gave me instillagel which numbs the area before I started treatment. Hopefully they will sort you out tomorrow.  X

  • I cannot imagine how uncomfortable that was for you if part of it was external. I can only describe it as feeling a large shard of glass inside of you and any slight movement is painful x
