Hello,

The radiologist has suggested aloe Vera gel for itching etc. Has anyone used this before? Do you put it on the whole area that’s having treatment?

Thanks

Lesley

  • Hi Rogers4075

Aloe vera gell 99.9% was one of the creams I was told I could use by my radiotherapists, I used it briefly everywhere until I ran out and couldn't get anymore locally. I wasn't really itchy when I used it but it is quite soothing and I've used it for burns in the past.xx

  • Hey

I didn't suffer from any itching (fortunately) but I used organic coconut oil throughout - never before treatment but I literally and liberally applied it like it was a pair of cycling shorts a couple of times of day.... I'm not sure how much of a role that played in limiting my symptoms but my skin has  faired very well - I'm a week out from treatment and whilst my bum hole is still sore, I've only got a little bit of soreness that I'm now using sudocrem on - I did start using Flaminal Forte after week 5 - but stopped using that after 7 days.

Before starting treatment I purchased 2 tubs of aloe Vera gel (99%)... I applied it just once - and it might be the version I purchased but it just stung so much.

Hope you find something that helps - I know that others have mentioned taking an antihistamine....

    Best wishes

  • Hello Lesley

My oncologist prescribed Aloe Vera cream after treatment ended, I didn't have itching but my skin had broken down badly.  I know Aloe Vera has many properties but I can honestly say I didn't notice any difference in my skin, it wasn't quite the panacea I thought it would be.  But that was me, and others have found it effective.  It is supposed to help with itching though, which I didn't have.

If your radiotherapists have okayed it during treatment then I would certainly try it.
