Feedback time from first post treatment scan

Just a random question.

Can I ask those who are post treatment how long they had to wait between having the 12 week scan and getting feedback on the results?

I have my scan booked for 10th February but the follow on appointment I have just been sent isn’t until 11th March. Obviously will be anxious to know the outcome and just wondering what the process has been for others.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Hope everyone doing as ok as possible x

  • Hi PEB24

I am also at the 12 weeks post treatment I will have my scan tomorrow and the oncologist visit for results on the 29.01. Anxiety is high but keep positive, I truly know how you feel but we have gone through really hard time with the treatment and we are strong and we did it! I have been informed from other experiences in the forum the first scan is not definitive as treatment keeps working so be prepared all clear is unlikely until second scan. Best wishes and a big hug I am wirh youxxx

  • Hi  ,

My treatment was back in 2018 so pre-pandemic, back then I would get my scan results around 2 weeks after I’d had my scans but appreciate quite a lot has changed within the NHS since then! This doesn’t help you though, the wait for results are agonising, everything is so long & drawn out now, thinking of you.

  • Hi Marisol,

Thank so much for your kind, helpful and supportive reply. As you say, really important to try to remain positive! It’s so easy to become anxious when having a bad day bowel function.

Wishing you all the best for your scan tomorrow and for the follow up on 29th. I appreciate that results won’t be definitive on this first scan but we just want to hear some positive news after going through the treatment.

Big hug back to you too.

  • Hi Nikki,

Thanks so much for your response and for the information. I did see my Consultant yesterday and he said that he would see me again 2 weeks post scan so was a bit surprised when the appointment was emailed today for 4 weeks.
I suppose he is very booked up but time does pass slowly when you’re waiting for news!

Very much hope that things are going well for you.

  • Honestly, I think a month is far far too long.  But sadly I don't know what you can do about it.  My follow-on appointments are always the following week and my sympathy goes out to those who have to wait far longer, it is so very stressful what ever the wait.

So sorry you are having to wait PEB24.

  • Hi Irene,

Many thanks for your kind response.

It does seem like rather a long time to wait for the results of the scan and I’m glad that others are being seen more quickly. I can only assume it’s to do with resources and as you say, not much I can do about it. Will just have to practice patience and positive thinking until March 11th!

    Thanks again xx

  • Hi

I had my scan on Monday 7th and don’t have my face to face with results until 20th January. The anxiety of waiting is the worst part, everything has calmed down for me now in the anus area. I can now go the toilet without pain and feel like the swelling has gone so hoping for a clear outcome this time round.

  • Hi AsLu,

So good that your symptoms are improving and that everything is calming down a bit. Really hoping for a positive outcome for you when you get feedback on 20th. It sounds like you have really turned a corner which is great and such a relief to be able to go to the toilet without pain.

It sounds like a 2 week wait is the average for obtaining feedback post scan so I’m disappointed that I will have to wait 4 weeks but can only assume resources are stretched and not much I can do.

The waiting is an anxious time but very much hope you will receive good news.

    Have a lovely weekend x
