Hi
I’m currently nearly 2 years post treatment and go for MRI and/or CT scans periodically, and I just wondered if anybody knew whether the oncologists only check the area where the cancer was on the scans or if they check other regions for signs of reoccurrence?
do they check nearby organs or bones etc to see if it has spread to those areas?
it’s not a question I’ve asked (suppose I should do really) but I’m not due back till March next year, so just wondering if anyone on here knows?
thanks x
Hi,
Not medically qualified in any way but my understanding is that they do check scans for spread, and that's why they do several different types. I think once they are happy that your treatment has been successful they may move on to just pelvic scans. I am three years post treatment and don't have any scans at all now, just physical examination but this varies from hospital to hospital.
If you are worried, it wouldn't do any harm to email your consultant and ask - they'll be happy to clarify and put your mind at ease.
V xx
