Anxious about booking a foreign holiday

Hello everyone

I had my MRI scan just over a week ago and have my follow up appointment on 1st. I am obviously keeping everything crossed that the surgery and treatment has done a good job and taken away this beastly cancer Fingers crossed

A little part of me is daring to dream about a nice holiday abroad and part of me remains anxious about going away from home. I still have the frequency of many bowel movements daily, my stamina has improved and am walking more regularly now. Just wondering if anyone here has had similar doubts?

Thanks for listening

  • I've been diagnosed with lung cancer, and had 40 sessions of radiotherapy, like you I was scared of goin abroad. But I decided to go to Lanzorote, all thou I struggled with the hills and sometimes on the flat.Me and my partner had a lovely time and I'm glad I went.Good luck with  your journey.

  • Hi Minty

like you I was very anxious after 28 sessions of radiation and chemo. I was annxious about holidays etc and being too far away from home and still had side effects. However, me and my fiancé booked a holiday to Egypt, i was 3 weeks post treatment. Tried to not worry as the 5 hour flight was booked straight next to the toilet. We had the best time and it was well needed!!
I was so proud of myself for managing it but it was literally it a relaxing beach holiday where we did nothing and it was amazing.

i would say go for it, if you feel you can. Book seats on thr plane next to the toilets, no long transfers etc. tailor it to your needs

    xx

  • Thank you , good to hear you had a lovely holiday x

  • Thank you for those tips too, that was great you felt well enough to go so soon after treatment.,  When I had endometrial cancer surgery 11 years ago I went away 9 weeks after and am sure wasn’t as anxious. My daughter reminded me that  I was 11 years younger and didn’t have any chemo or radiotherapy after that. I’m waiting until after 1st then I’ll be looking for something Fingers crossed

    thanks x

  • Yeah it was very soon but I had side effects since about 3/4 weeks Into treatment so things were weirdly getting better and worse at the same time. I was still quite poorly a week before we went but every day I got better and managed it. The most comforting part about it was that I knew it was only 15 mins from the airport and we noooed seats right next to the toilet on the plane etc. so these small things made all the difference.

i am having my scans this week post treatment and I’m so anxious. Wound myself up today about it and had a cry earlierWearyWeary

im just so worried that things will be the same and I can’t face any more treatment, I’m so anxious about that. I just pray things have worked!!

I hope your appointment goes well and I keep everything crossed for you.
    xx

  • I understand how you feel , it’s not an easy journey to undertake and treatment gruesome at times , I’m also nervous about the results on 1st and my mind goes haywire at times about it . I also hope you get good news at your appointment and I’ll keep everything crossed for you too.
    xx

  • Hi Minty ,

  • Hi it would be interesting to know if you suffer from long term after effects with bowel issues from your treatment like anal cancer survivors.

  • Hi Chrissie

Thank you, I'm glad you got away in your family holiday last month  . It will have been a great confidence builder .

    Onwards we go xx

  • Hello Jaycee12

Yes 3 months post treatment my bowel is definitely not operating like it was pre treatment. I'm going to discuss it with my oncologist next week as I'm at a loss what to to do to improve it.  My cancer nurse keeps saying it's early days and bowels have had a big shock .
