Hi all, I have a coil, will it need to be removed before I start my treatment
thanks
Hi Bex1969,
I think it will all depend on the type of coil. I have a mirena coil & when I asked my oncologist should I have it removed prior to treatment but he said because it didn’t contain any metal of any kind it could be left in situ. I should have had it removed at the beginning of the pandemic but still haven’t got round to having it out! I must make the appointment!
Nicola
I am due to have my removed, my consultant said it was fine to leave in. However since completing 5 months ago and using the dilators I am not convinced it will come out easily I wished I had it taken out before.
has anyone had it removed ? Did you have a new one put back in ?

Hi Bumwarrior ,
I’ve just received a reminder for my first smear test since my treatment finished so I’m going to enquire when I go about getting my coil removed. I’ll not be having another one put in. My oncologist said if there were any issues removing it I could have it done with sedation/anaesthetic.

Hi Nicola
how are you ? Well I hope . Did you get your coil removed? I due in tomorrow
Hi Bumwarrior , I’m good thank you, how are you doing? I still haven’t had it removed no but I had my smear test a couple of weeks ago & I explained to the nurse that it’d been in throughout my treatment & I really should get it removed so she said she’d see if it was still visible when she checked my cervix, she said yes she could see it straight away & didn’t think there’d be any issues removing it although for whatever reason now I have to go to the family planning clinic for removal.… I hope it goes well tomorrow, will you let me know how you get on please?
Nicola
It’s out !! They just used a scope so it came out easy with no pain. I didn’t get one back in as they said that might be more tricky so I left it for now.
That’s fantastic news Bumwarrior that’s made me worry a little less about making an appointment & getting mine removed too. Thank you for the update, I’m pleased it was uneventful.
