Just got home from today's radiotherapy and blood test. Week 4 done! I got a 'gift' yesterday at radiotherapy. A box of errrm.....how can I describe them, Russian Dolls? You'll get my drift hopefully to those who have travelled this road already.

I was read the riot act again yesterday, about how bad it's going to get and the pain will be at its worst 2 weeks after treatment finishes. I was quite upset when I got home - I felt so scared. Anyway, whats the point in worrying about the future, let's think of today -  I'm doing ok, the Nu-Gel and sitz baths help, my skin is burnt and broken but I'm still managing to work from home and get out and about and live as normal a life as possible Thumbsup

    Hi there,

Well done, week 4 in the bag and the finish line is just in the distance. Sounds to me like you’re doing really well. When I was in week 4 the only getting out and about I managed to do was to the hospital and back.

As you know this treatment accumulates and your medial professional is right, things tend to be at their worse towards the end and then the symptoms peak around 10-14 days. 2 weeks after treatment was the worse for me, but it affects us all differently. I wouldn’t say I was in loads of pain but the fatigue was like nothing I’d experienced. I felt like a rag doll and slept a lot. Bowel function was interesting I couldn’t really control things. However! we all react differently it may be different for you. Just focus on one day at a time and try not to think too much about what may, or may not happen in the next week, month etc.

It will all be over soon and you will then be starting your healing and recovery. We’re all here to tell the tale, you can do it!

The Russian Dolls! yes a nice pressie from the NHS to all us ladies and that’s another story. You really don’t need to think about those until you’re well into your recovery. Just put them away safe somewhere.

Enjoy the rest your weekend lovely.

  • Well done you are coping so well.   Love the Russian Dolls name, interesting gift, what?

Keep on being positive, I don't think they should be so tough with you.   We are all different and cope differently and you seem to be doing well.

    All the best Beryl x

  • Well done on completing week 4, you’re on the home straight now.

You've got a great attitude & although it’s good to be forewarned about what’s to come I think you’re doing right by just taking each day as it comes. As you now know the effects of this treatment accumulate over the days/weeks & we cope with them as they do, at the beginning of my treatment all I could think about was how bad it was going to be at the end but as the days passed I realised I was coping ok & soon began to concentrate on how I felt that particular day rather than how I was going to feel 2 weeks from then. My skin reaction etc., seemed to peak around day 11 post treatment but this can be different for everyone.

As for the ‘Russian Dolls’ as Sarah said pop them away somewhere safe until you’re healed.

Keep doing what you’re doing & be kind to yourself over these coming weeks. When your healing begins if it’s anything like mine it’ll happen quite quickly & it’ll all soon be a distant memory.
