Hi, can anyone tell me how quickly they started your treatment after diagnosis? Has anyone postponed for a few weeks? Mine is Stage II, Grade 3. Pretty sure I've had it a while, but no one was in a hurry to diagnose the tumors as anything but hemorrhoids.
Hi DeeDeeR , my timeline was a little different as I had surgery first to remove my tumour, I had to wait 8 weeks for my surgery site to heal then I had a course of chemoradiotherapy as there was a tiny portion of my tumour that had only a 1mm clearance, that being the cut off for further treatment.
Hopefully others will be along soon to share their experiences.
Nicola
I too had a external tumour removed, and in week 3 of recovering from that. I definately don't want radiation down there until it's healed, but I also have a life event coming up that would push me out about 7 weeks. I don't want to take chances of moving to something worse. Hoping my radiologist can give me some clarity soon. Thank you for your response.
I know every cancer is treated differently but I’ve a friend that was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, she had surgery & analysis of her tumour showed she wouldn’t need follow up chemo but a course of radiotherapy would be of benefit, she was told that she would need to wait 12 weeks to make sure her scar tissue didn’t break down during radiotherapy.
Fingers crossed your treating team will bring you good news & you can continue with your plans.
Nicola
Hello DeeDeeR
I don't think my case was typical as my tumour was submucosal and it was very difficult to get a biopsy. I first went to the doctor early March and treatment didn't start until mid-June, but during that time I was having scans, sigmoidoscopies, and eventually a biopsy under GA and also a biopsy taken through my back.
Once they had established the cancer type treatment started within two weeks.
I hope you get a timeline that works well for you.
Irene xx
Hi DeeDeeR
I had many delays along the way but from initial diagnosis I had to wait about 9 weeks to get a biopsy under GA and then from there it was about another 9 weeks before treatment started. Couldn’t be referred from the initial diagnosis as they didn’t have confirmation by biopsy and that’s what’s required apparently.
So to treatment start about 3 years from initial Doc’s appointment then about 12months from final doc appointment when they said I had Haemorrhoids, and 5 months from being told it was AC at Colonoscopy and 7 weeks from official diagnosis by biopsy result.
Hope your treatment gets underway soon and that it’s successful.
Monty xx
