Hi all
This last week my stomach had been really bad. Had a lot of bloating, trapped wind and lots of constipation. I've eventually been the loo but have since been sick
Are these side effects normal? X
Hello Ian L c2e27
That really doesn't sound very pleasant; it actually sounds more like some sort of bug, some stomach problems especially in the early days (and it still is early days for you) are very common. But I have never read about anyone being sick almost six months out of treatment as you are no longer in active treatment.
I noted that you had the all-clear in February but it wouldn't do any harm to run your symptoms past your treating team if you are concerned.
I do hope you get some relief soon - please check in an let us know how you get on.
Irene xx
Thanks Irene,
I think the trapped wind and constipation made me so nauseous and it has been worse this past week. I also think that since treatment I have become more intolerant of stuff stomach wise
I'll see how I get on this week x
I had a lot of gas & constipation post treatment & couldn’t manage without stool softeners for the first 3 years, I kept a food diary as I had adverse reactions to lots of foods I’d previously been ok with, I recorded foods & reactions for every meal eaten for a couple of weeks & was surprised on how quickly it highlighted the culprits. The constipation when it was bad caused some nausea but I was never sick or felt like I needed to be sick. During treatment & for a while afterwards I stuck to a lactose free diet, I cut sugar & processed foods & tried to eat as clean as possible, but I understand that’s not for everyone, (note to self, get back to that because I felt so much better!).
As Irene has suggested I would run your symptoms past your team especially if they continue.
Nicola
Hello Ian, Sorry that you’re having such an unpleasant time. I think some of the effects are normal, other than being sick.
I hope things have improved.
I know that I had to carry on with the ducosate after treatment ( I still use it) and also did the Fodmap diet for a while to identify triggers.
Everything does seem to become more sensitive and reactive after treatment and I hope this settles down for you soon.
xx
