Hi peeps I hope you are all well.
I've had my scans and am due to meet the Dr tomorrow and to be honest, im scared.
My Dr said last time that for the 10% that aren't successful its because they have response from treatment and that i appear to have had a response as lump has gone. But on inside of my anus entry I have a hard area and unsure of it's still part of the tumour or just changes to my skin from rafiotherapy.
I have a feeling that im the unlucky one that has partial clearance of that is even possible and require more treatment.
Im dreading these results xx
Hi Ian
Just wanted to wish you all the very best for your appointment tomorrow.
Also to reassure you that it's very early days since your treatment. Scars, stenosis and inflamation form which can feel like lumps and bumps inside.
Nearly 6 months on, I have scar tissue, inflamation and edema from my anus to rectum, but they are confident for now, the anal cancer is clear.
I'm waiting for PET scan results and totally understand your fear. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for all of us in this difficult position.
Ally xx
Hello Ian L c2e27
We all experience the same fear when seeing the oncologist for scan results; I am not making light of it for one minute, just offering solidarity. The build-up to seeing the doctor can be unbearable at times, especially as many of us (definitely me) feel all these twinges and odd pains and sore bits in the area and fear the worst, every time.
But as Ally says very few of us come through unscathed after treatment; it is early days for you and skin and anal irritation is still running high. On one scan I was told there was a 'thickening' and had to for a sigmoidoscopy to check it out. The lovely staff gave me a colour picture of the inside of my anus and rectum, still raw with tiny red veins everywhere (proctitis) but there was absolutely nothing they were worried about.
We are all thinking of you tomorrow, and keeping everything crossed that your results are clear.
Big hug

Hi Ian L c2e27 ,
Just popped on to wish you the very best of luck with your appointment tomorrow & to offer a little reassurance (hopefully) that the way you’re feeling is completely normal!
As both Ally & Irene have both said the changes in the skin & deeper tissues following the radiotherapy are immense. You’ve your tumour site which will, as already mentioned, be raw, inflamed & there will be scar tissue forming too. It’s not unusual for oncologists to want to double check the area where scar tissue has formed so try not to panic if this is mentioned.
Sending lots of positive thoughts your way & I’ll have everything crossed for you for great results tomorrow.
Nicola
Hello Ian,
Just wanted to wish you all the very best for your appointment and scan results tomorrow.
Scar tissue is not uncommon and often due to this some say that it’s the 6 month scan that is more accurate as everything is still healing up internally for the first few months.
Having said that, hopefully as part of the appointment you will be properly checked out, and I have everything crossed for you. The waiting is grim but hoping it’s good news. Xx
Thanks for all of your messages of support ill keep ypu posted x
