Well I am now in week 4 (day 17 out 30) and although I am feeling very sore, thankfully the painkillers are helping a lot. I’ve also been taking two long saltwater baths a day, and every time I go to the toilet, I make sure to apply plenty of Silverderm cream. I’ve started to feel the pain ( shards of glass dipped in acid) that many others talk about when going to the toilet, so I know I have that to look forward to!
The nurse and doctor checked my skin yesterday around the groin, anus, and vaginal area, and they seemed very pleased with it—burns are very minimal. I haven’t experienced many side effects from the chemo, apart from a bit of weight loss, tiredness, and a lack of appetite. I stay in bed all day since it’s where I feel most comfortable, and I’m sticking to a very bland diet. That said, I had a craving this week and treated myself to tinned salmon and cucumber sandwiches with a few crisps inside for that extra crunch —very weird indeed!
Hi Mix,
You're past the halfway point now! I've been thinking about you and hoping you're doing well (or as well as you can during the second half of chemo radiation treatment!). I'm one week behind you and view you as the ship ahead of me that I'm following in the fog. Enjoy those salmon and cucumber sandwiches with a few crisps and wishing you as smooth a transit as possible through that shards-of-glass stage. Keep posting. I'm sending you all my best healing thoughts. Xx
Bless you Poppydays2,
I”m also thinking about you and reading your posts. I feel lucky so far that the pain hasn’t been too bad, and sitting in a bath is also really helping to soothe the painful bits.
Keep strong, we can do this
Hi Mix , it’s good to hear you’re progressing well, I used to find an Epsom salt bath was where I was most comfortable especially in the latter stages of my treatment & for the couple of weeks afterwards. I do hope you enjoyed your sandwiches. You’ll be finished your treatment before you know it.
Nicola
Hello Mix
Salmon and cucumber with crisps sounds lush! - eat whatever takes your fancy right now. You are doing really well and are more than half-way through. Make sure to let your team know if the painkillers stop being effective (although nothing can completely spare you) but they have a lot more at their disposal should you need it. And keep marking off that calendar!
Irene xx
