Diarrhea

Hi Everyone,

I finished my treatments on Christmas Eve , what a relief not to have to fill my bladder and lie under that machine !

Unfortunately I now have very bad diarrhea which is extremely painful to pass through a burnt bottom as we all know.  I am taking the tablets to stop it and I think it’s now sorted but what does anyone recommend to eat ?

I am so aware that what goes in has to come out that I can’t face eating anything, but know I have too.

Any advice gratefully received.

  • Hi I only had one day of bad diarrhoea and that was a good month post treatment. I would assume you need to add more fibre to your diet. Can relate to not wanting to eat though ,first couple of weeks post treatment it was like pooing razor blades covered in acid. During treatment I had to cut veg so my diet consisted of cheese and marmite on toast and chicken. Since treatment finished I have added the veg back and been eating normally. Sorry not much help.  Hope you had a good Christmas. Xx

  • Hi Jet 414!
Great that you’ve finished your treatment! I kept to a low fibre diet for a couple of weeks and that kept my bowel calm. Hope it works for you. I’m now 4 weeks post treatment and everything is much better. Hope all goes well. Keep us posted

  • Hello Jet1414

I had really bad diarrhoea especially at the end of treatment and I am not sure if it was the culmination of radiotherapy or the chemo that caused it.  At that time I was living on cheese and toast with mustard and onion which was the only thing that appealed so I am sorry I can't advise on reducing your bowel upset.  Just make sure you don't take anything that causes constipation!  Well done for getting through it, now just spoil yourself and concentrate on recovery!
