Kicking cancers ass

Hello again

I was diagnosed with anal cancer in August and then found out it had spread to my neck so classed as stage 4. I had the standard 28 sessions of chemo radiation finishing on 6 November. I had two radiotherapy sessions a day, one for my bum/groin and one for my neck. Plus oral chemotherapy daily. Been a hard slog. I had to have a blood transfusion in week 4 due to red cells being low (or something). Post treatment the burns and sores were horrific, peeing was so painful I’d scream. Bowel movements were all over the place but after 3 weeks the burns healed and everything was so much better.

Due to the amount my cancer had spread I had a full body ct scan 3 weeks ago to check for more tumours. Today I was told that there is no sign of any additional tumours and that my existing tumours were no longer visible. The relief is amazing! I still have to have the normal 3 month scan in February which hopefully will show the same results.

For those going through treatment, keep the faith. It’s brutal and at times so painful you wonder if it will ever get better. Stay as positive as you can the nhs and forums like this are simply amazing.

  • Thanks for your positive message, I am into day 10 after finishing 28 days of radiation and chemo and the effects of the radiation is so painful, its hard to remember what its like to live pain free.  It reassuring to know that healing will begin soon.
