My oncologist has stopped my Capecitabine because of raised levels in my liver. Has anyone else experienced this? Did your liver levels return to normal after?
Hello Heather,
Someone else will probably respond more fully to your query, but if it reassures you at all my understanding is that it's the radiotherapy that does the real damage to the tumour. Quite a few people on here had their chemo halted for various reasons and are still doing really well.
Hello Heather09
I had systemic chemo prior to the combined chemo/radiotherapy and it was at that time I had a session cancelled because of raised levels in my liver, I was on Carboplatin/Paclitaxol. Less than a week later they were better and I was able to restart on a reduced dose of 75 percent. My liver levels are fine now.
There are quite a few forum members who had to stop chemo for one reason or another and the radiotherapy went ahead as normal and I believe they are fine. If you are unsure or worried, please talk to your oncologist who should be able to reassure you.

I had raised levels of bilirubin after a week of the capecetibine tablets, but they thought this was due to a genetic thing called Gilberts syndrome, which is usually harmless but can sometimes cause jaundice. Instead of the tablets I had a week of an IV chemo around week 3-4 I think, which apart from the hassle of having the bottle attached was actually ok. Since finding out about the Gilberts syndrome I've met a couple of other people who have it, so i think its relatively common. My Bilirubin levels dropped after I stopped all the chemo, but it did take several months.
