Hi , I’m starting week 3 tomorrow , my treatment area is sore and not sure what my bowels are up to .I’m passing lots of wind with some staining . I’ve been using Laxido on occasions . Is it better to take it every day or just as needed . I usually have sluggish bowels , so I’m trying to figure which is best way to manage . I’d value any advice / suggestions x

  • Hello Goldie65

If sluggish bowels are the norm for you, then I would carry on taking the Laxido.  In the later stages of your treatment you may need opioid drugs for pain - Oramorph or Cocodamol which, (although they may well be needed so don't hold back),  cause constipation.  So avoid constipation at all costs.

I hope you are marking off the days left of treatment - it is truly wonderful to pass that last day and know that the daily visit is over.

  • Gosh   how amazing that you're now starting week 3 - I'm a about to start week 2.

I have been really struggling with wind since day one, I find lying on my left hand side helps. But my butt is making its own version of caramel - and so some passing of wind is definitely completed on the toilet.

I've got some laxatives to pick up from the pharmacy today - and some different anti-nausea tablets.  I was advised at my check-in that it was better to go to the loo once/twice rather than multiple times throughout the day, passing very little - which is my current state of BM.

    Good luck with week three!

  • Hi Goldie65

I still regularly take laxido - most days.  If I become too loose then I take loperamide (immodium) and that balances it out.  It is a juggling act.  I am 18 months post and wouldn't be without both!  It does become more manageable once you recover but you learn to cope and recognise that some foods upset you more.

Well done on reaching week 3.  Hang on in there! Over half way now.

  • Hi

I had wind early on and the radiotherapy people told me to cut veg from my diet in particular broccoli and it sorted it. I don't know what your diet is like but maybe worth a try. Xx

  • Thanks for your response Irene ,

It doesn’t take much to affect my bowels unfortunately . I have had a chat with specialist Nurse today and he’s advised 2 Laxido twice a day , so hopefully that will help me .
I am marking off the days , January 8 th can’t come soon enough .

    Best wishes xxx

  • Hi Ali ,

We seem to have a similar bowel pattern at the moment .  Hope your second week goes well .
Hoping the Laxido will sort me out !
Thanks for your kind wishes and all the best to you xxx

  • Hi Carole ,

Thanks for your response . Before my treatment I was having to use daily suppositories  to go , I’ll keep going with the Laxido .
Lovely that you’re 18 months the other side .

    Best wishes xxx

  • Hi Bungle ,

Thanks for the heads up about diet , I eat a normal varied diet but will perhaps cut back on the windy veg .
I suppose it’s all trial and error .
     Best wishes xxx

  • Hope it helps. I'm just over a month post treatment now and have slowly reintroduced the veg back into my diet and been fine. Good luck. Xx

  • Hi Goldie65,

I have just 7 treatments to go but it’s in this last week that things have got quite painful. The morphine is a life saver but I make sure I take a Laxido every night to stop any constipation from the morphine. I had so much wind in the early weeks but my gut seems to have settled down a bit now. I am very careful what I eat, mainly toast, eggs, bananas and kefir Greek yoghurt, a kiwi fruit and some blueberries for breakfast but no roughage or meat.

As Irene says don’t hold back on the morphine but remember to take the Laxido daily.
