Hi everyone, I’m asking on behalf of my wife who has just finished radiotherapy and it’s starting to burn and blister as we were told it would.
she’s been told to use Flamazine which she has just started using but it seems to have made the pain worse. Does anyone know if this is normal and will settle down with use or should she stop using it.
She has spoken to various doctors and consultants who simply say to use it but not exactly how and what to expect and the instructions on the packet are more frightening than helpful.
thank you in advance for any guidance.
Hello P22
It is difficult to say as the side effects peak in the two weeks after treatment ends, and it could be that unfortunately your wife hasn't reached the peak in spite of using Flamazine and this is what she could be experiencing. Ultimately what really helped me was Flaminal Forte combined with Polymem dressings. In spite of the names sounding as if they are roughly the same they are not, and if things don't improve I would ask for a change in the cream.
Your wife really is at the sharp end of treatment and things generally do start to improve a couple of weeks after the end of treatment although it may not seem like that to her right now.
Best of luck, I hope she finds someone more helpful.
Irene xx
Thank you so much. As you say, early days and I’m sure things will get easier. G
Hi I sympathise so much as will everyone on here! I used Flamigel RT thi help heal radiotherapy burns (front to back) and a barrier cream which protected the raw skin from passing urine and stools. Also kept taking Morphine slow release and oral which helped immensely - hourly at peak times and then less dosage and less frequent as it improved x use your consultant secretary if you don’t get alternatives and the cancer care line x stinging creams are no good and pain caused on top of treatment is not acceptable x I relied on a sitz bath for relief and toilet times, warm water in the sitz bath helped. Pain relief and laxatives were my best friends x
This time will pass and things to get better but your wife must use everything you can get to help - insist / cry whatever is needed xx
