Hello, I’m not on my 25 the day of chemo radiotherapy and I’ve really struggled the last week with the pain in my bottom and surrounding areas. I’ve loads of haemorrhoids, they’ve given me cream to use but it’s so painful I can’t. I’ve also got cream for the burns but it doesn’t seem to be helping. I use a sitz bath throughout the day which helps. Any suggestions please as I just want to cry, I’ve never had pain like this before. The doctor prescribed me tramadol which took away the pain although I felt like a zombie but the side effect of them made me constipated which was worse. Is it normal to take 2&1/2 hours a day for a bowel movement? Mine seems to come out in instalments. Sorry I feel like I’m being a moan but I’m finding it hard just now xx
Hi Tiffy I so feel for you! I managed to get slow release morphine and had to use laxatives (Laxido) it’s such a personal thing trial and error really is the best way to see what suits you. Had twice a day slow release, oral morphine hourly and sleep lots x
Tell your team or the cancer care line what’s going on and they will have other ideas to help. Don’t stop asking for help until it’s a bit better x
I used flamigel, a barrier cream and water with a sitz bath as everything was so sore. Just get through it the best way you can x it will get better and everyone has had different meds x x x x
sending love and strength x

You aren't moaning - I only need to read how you are feeling and it all comes flooding back. One thing I learned from very painful experience is that opioid drugs cause constipation - so much so that my daughter ended up giving me an enema on our bathroom floor. And I developed piles too.
Please take at least one, if not two Laxido (a stool softener not a laxative) a day whilst you are taking Tramadol. And ask if you can try something else if the side effects of the Tramadol are too much. The pain (for some of us) can be really bad and at my worse I was on morphine, slow release morphine and co-codamol and even with all of those, loo visits were excruciating. What really helped my burns was Flaminel Forte Creme applied with Polymem dressings. I had the dressing with lots of the creme wedged between my buttocks, and you mightn't believe it but gradually, things got better.
Sending a gentle healing hug

Aww thank you Irene, I’m usually quite strong and can suffer pain but this is completely different. I’ll see what I can get tomorrow. I would try anything. It doesn’t help that I’ve got radiation cystitis too.
Did you feel as if your insides were going to fall out?
Thank you so much for your advice xx
Oh Tiffy please don’t feel you have to apologise one bit! One thing you must do and that is to get this pain under control with regular pain relief where the drugs are constantly in your system. I like Irene was on morphine and also having to alternate ibuprofen and then paracetamol every two hours so taking ibuprofen then two hours later paracetamol and two hours later ibuprofen. I took movicol for stool softeners every night and drank two litres of water a day. Tell your team you want help now. It’s good you are using the sitz bath which helps when you add some sea salt. I also got these little silicone rectangle bags full of these little jelly beads that you put in the freezer and then put them in the little sock they come with and you can slip these inside your knickers to help cool thing down there. I think they are especially for haemorrhoids. I got these on Amazon. I had six weeks treatment and side effects really kicked in on my fifth week and beyond but taking the painkillers like clockwork helped tremendously. Yes your bottom does feel like it’s falling out as everything it swollen internally and trying to recover from the burns. Some of us start to turn around the corner around two weeks post treatment but some can take longer which I did but now three years three months and doing great. You will get there you just need more help from your treatment team. Good luck
Julie
Hi,
You poor thing, this sounds really painful. I think our bowels get really upset by the treatment and that the tumour which is being zapped is being passed as well as your poo so it's a lot to cope with. I don't think I took 2.5 hours to go but I went many times a day.
You are almost there now, so do whatever gets you through, and keep going back to doc or RT if you are not getting any relief . The effects do continue for a little while after your treatment has stopped so it's worth getting sorted, but the great feeling of being finished treatment is a big psychological boost.
All the very best
I hope you start to feel better soon Tiffy .. I’m 4 months post treatment and each week a new challenge.. these lovely people will help you … I’m experiencing watery wind this week which has sent my anxiety into overdrive as had this before the treatment started and then it subsided ..
take care
Chrissie xx
Oh no!!! It’s not thing after another. Poor you . It’s the fear of having an ‘accident’ all the time . Will we ever be back to normal after this? Xx
Hello Tiffy
I felt as if my my backside had been dipped in boiling water. I agree, the pain can on another level and a common theme on here is now is not the time to be a hero - take the strong pain relief if needed, opioids are not addictive if used correctly for pain and my treating team were on the ball always, checking how much I needed, how much I had left and generally keeping a very close eye on me.
You will get through this Tiffy.
Irene xx
