Hemorrhoid Treatment

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.

I'm 10 days post treatment, been suffering with constipation I think due to Codeine tablets so trying to get off them.

I have got 2 big hemorrhoids since starting treatment which are very painful and large. My body naturally is straining when trying to pass stools which is not making them any better.

I've still got some sore skin around the area but I have no idea what to put on them to ease the pain and reduce the swelling. Anybody got any suggestions or tips that they used for them? I'm not sure i can use OTC meds because of the broken skin.

  • Hello Lyn31

My childbirth piles came back with a vengeance after treatment ended with constipation caused by morphine and codeine, not helped by anal stenosis after radiotherapy.  I started taking Laxido (a stool softener) but couldn't get the balance right and ended up coming off them completely.  So I would, without delay, take one or more Laxido sachets alongside opioid painkillers (whilst you still need them for pain relief).

Have you spoken to your treating team about your sores?  They are normally very responsive and can prescribe on the day, please don't soldier on, they have lots of lotions and potions which help enormously during this period.

And well done for getting this far - things should only get better!

    Gentle healing hug

  • All I was given was Honey Balm pre broken skin then PolyMem dressing and morphine gel. My oncologist suggested Vaseline on Thursday for skin sticking together but apart from that... nothing.

I just want to know what hemorrhoid treatment i can use as my constipation is now solved thanks to Lactulose.

  • Hi the soreness and skin sticking together is awful - you really must talk to your care team  / call the help line and don’t strain. It’s painful but you need to try to relax as you heal x macmillan radiotherapy specialist and the cancer care line helped me immensely but you need to ask for help and do t wait for a call back x good luck x

Piles are so painful, although I was given creams and gel for the burn my piles weren't treated by the oncology team.  I first used Anusol Plus HC suppositories but was going to the loo so often I often passed them before they could really take effect so I used one last thing at night, and during the day Sheriproct Ointment both of which helped.

Hope you get something sorted out to help you.

  • Contacted the hospital and just been told instillagel only until the skin is healed but it won't shrink them.
