Hi everyone had some bad news Wednesday my consultant said it looks like it’s come back!!
I have to have a pet scan an biopsy, he said might be able to cut it out or might not so as you can imagine I’m in a right state with myself.

  • Oh my poor, poor Kim. Damn it. I'm SO sorry. I guess that explains at least partially your ongoing unmitigated pain.

I know this must be gutting you, but think of it this way, my dear one. You've been SO miserable, and no one has offered you any chance of improvement.

This is it. This is going to be where they finally take care of this damned horrible disease and free you to enjoy the rest of your life.

Please keep us posted as to how you're getting on.

    Hugs

    Suz

  • I’m so sorry to be reading this  , I know how much you’ve been struggling of late, keep sourcing support from wherever you can, including here, speak with your consultant about getting some face to face support also they may be able to point you in the right direction. As Suz has said please keep us up to speed on how you’re going.

  • Hi thank you for your replies! I’m seeing a bowel specialist next week see if they can cut it out? I’m really hoping they can help me I just want it over with! Got pet scan on Saturday as well, I’m trying to stay positive but it’s so hard.

  • Oh Kim, no wonder you were in such pain - the mind boggles.  I admit to a wave of anger that you were being dosed up with anti-depressants and having your wound dressed daily and no-one seemed to join the dots.  I can totally understand you being in a state, you will probably feel like that until they have a treatment plan worked out for you.  Hopefully any surgery you have will put paid to this once and for all and you can get on with your life.

We are all thinking about you, please let us know how you get on.

  • Has anyone had surgery to get it cut out? It’s next to my anus not actually in it! I’m so scared about having surgery.

  • Hello Kimj

I am sorry, this is something I have no experience of.  But if it is the cancer that has prevented your wound from healing I would hope that things will only get better for you much more quickly once the affected tissue is removed.  I can completely understand why you are so nervous but you definitely can't continue at the level of pain that you are experiencing at the moment.  And hopefully, you will not be discharged from hospital without adequate follow-up and pain relief.

Hold on, Kim, we are all thinking about you.

  • Surgery is scary, I totally get it. But to get the last of the cancer out of your body, and an end to the horrific pain you've been experiencing, so worth it.

  • Hi Kimj,

i have had APR surgery in July this year to remove anal cancer (so not just removing the tumour if that is what you mean?)

i have tried to write a detailed account on my profile if it might be of use.

so sorry you are going through this rollercoaster again.

  • I had a local resection as first line treatment for my anal cancer (not recurrence), I did go on to have 28 days of chemoradiotherapy due to only having a 1mm clearance on a portion of my tumour. I was offered this surgery as I was diagnosed stage 1 with a tumour under 2cms with no nodes affected or mets. The recovery from the surgery I had was uncomfortable but I was prepared to go through that to rid myself of this disease. I am now 5 years 4 months cancer free.

  • Hi Kirsty, I have just read your story. Sorry to hear you have had a lot of trouble concerning your operation. I have a similar story where I have had an APER operation with a permanent stoma. Did you have a permanent stoma operation. My stoma is a colostomy. I am now 7 weeks post operation so I  am a couple of months behind you . Take care PP23
