Small nodule?

hi just received a letter from consultant regarding last appointment. Given the 95% clear at appointment nothing on examination or mri or st scan but in this letter it says… There is a possible small nodule remaining (few millimeters) in the perianal subcutaneous fat but no lymphadenopathy.
What’s does this mean is there a chance something is still there?? Thanks xx

  • Hi  ,

I’m not completely sure to be honest & it wouldn’t be fair on you for anyone without medical knowledge to start second guessing what this may mean, I think in your position I’d give your oncologist a call & ask for this to be explained in layman’s terms & also ask about the plan moving forward, this will probably be the only solution that is going to put your mind completely at rest.

Remind me again when was it you finished your treatment? Just because there does seem to be a period where the Dr’s tend to ‘wait & see’ before intervening with examinations under anaesthetic (EUA) & further biopsy’s etc. I hope you manage to speak with someone & get a clearer idea of what’s going on, the worry of it all can take such a toll on you, it’s totally exhausting.

    Sending positive thoughts your way.

  • Hi Nicola thanks for replying. My treatment finished 14th December I’ve had as my first examination Which was very uncomfortable but she managed I was told 95% clear good result!! I’ve left a message for my specialist nurse so hopefully she can clear this up.

  • I hope your nurse gets back to you soon & gives you some clarity on this. I think these letters go between our oncologists, surgeons, GP’s etc., & we’re copied in  when requested but we could do with another letter to explain the medical speak in the original letter! Let us know how you get on once you’ve spoken with your nurse.

  • For sure this letter I’ve read ( I received two) is a copy of the one for my gp but what concerns me is the above isn’t mentioned in my letter or was I told of this at my my appointment after treatment (3 months) I see her again 11th July.

  • You definitely need a better explanation of this then, when you speak with your nurse I would tell her that none of what’s in the letter to your GP was in the follow up letter you received or mentioned at your appointment & you need it explaining, you’ll drive yourself insane if you wait until July for some clarity on this.
